My friend asked me this, I didn't know how to answer, so I'm going to pass it onto you.

"Is god able to kill himself?
If he can't, he is not truly omnipotent
If he can, he is not truly immortal."

Puzzling. :eheh:

Is this any different to the 'can God make a rock so big he cannot lift it' question? What does this have to do with origins theology?

When we say God is all powerful we do not mean God can make 2+2=5 or make a circle into a square, or engage in self contradiction.

These are irrational questions, God does not dabble in the irrational.

Very simple: ask your friend to define "kill" first. After that, ask him to give a definition of "God". You make this request because you want to clarify his question.

Then he will find the he is contracting to himself.

I suppose the way God actually did it does not count. John 10:17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again.

so you're logic is as follows...

"If I can perceive of a situation in which causes MY interpretation of certain of God's attributes to appear paradoxical, then God must either not be a real being, or must not be what people make Him out to be"

unfortunately for you paradoxes exist everywhere. the entirety of the Christian faith is based off of a paradox, the hypostatic union.

Simply no. Your "Christian faith" may be based off of a paradox, that doesn't mean everyone's is. I for one don't hold to the hypostatic union, partially for that very reason.

I would answer by saying that someone who wants to kill themself is mentally unstable, and that is not a picture of God.
It would seem a pointless exercise to ponder something we cannot prove and will never be proven.
Suffice it to say that God can die, when in a human body. His spirit, like ours, is immortal, and in His case, eternally so.
