  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hmmm....I'd say that having him control all the elements would be overkill. Maybe you could have him control two that go together (like Water and Earth) and then have another character who has Air and Fire? It'd depend on the restrictions of whatever elemental magic system you come up with. (I'm big on systems; otherwise, it's far too easy to make your character too powerful, and that's not fun for anyone but the person who has the all-powerful character.)

If you want help, I'd be happy to offer it, but I'm interested in seeing what you come up with.

Here, I'll post a quick review of "Angelic spheres"

Angelic Spheres:

Other names include, Holy Weapons, Light Orbs, and Magical Essences, but Angelic Sphere is the most common name for them. They are orbs of light that vary in both size and color, depending on the uniquity of the sphere. Many of the spheres have existed before the dawn of time, but there are unique spheres that were created to honor a person or were made for a certain purpose. The most recent one that was created in memory of a hero was Orion, the predecessor of James Mardai. The Orion sphere is powerful in the fact that it can change not only into any weapon, but to anything that James can dream up.
Aside from changing into weapons, and every sphere is different when it comes to that, Spheres can be used to help the one bonded to it to focus his magic better, or it can be used as a catalyst to a spell, or to destroy a curse relative to the strength of the sphere. They are the pure essence of magic, which is how it is possible for it to be used in magic in this way. It has many more abilities that must be discovered itself.
There are limits, however, to who can use these spheres. Only those pure in heart can be bonded to one, or those who have the power to change the fate of the world for the better. Evil cannot use them. Also, there is a limit on the bonder himself. The sphere has a certain degree of sentience (which varies from sphere to sphere) and sometimes if the bonded person is not going to use the sphere for a good cause, the sphere will refuse to respond to him.
For the most part, a sphere, once bonded, will hover around the belt-line of the bonded one until the rest of that person's life, although it can be disguised as an item or weapon in the person's possession.

Yes, the explanation helped a lot.

I'm going to work on the villain's name (my character, that is).

NavyGuy, could you help me develop the character, since he's supposed to be a lot like James...maybe tell me what parts I need to include in his personality or something? Also..maybe I missed this or just forgot but..how exactly is the Shade 'created'? ... I suppose it has to do with magic, since he was created after James was the Kalv'Sham (I assume), yet he's the same age as James.. Just wondering. :o

Here are a few first names I'm considering :

Dracon/Drakon (I really like these two because they mean 'dragon')

Gaynor/Gaine

Slater

Dunno about the surname, I'll choose it once I get the first name... Anyway, tell me what you think.

yeah i'd appriciate the help in making my character, i've only made a few and if i could make more than one character then i'd have one control fire, and the other control earth, that way they can make for a devistating pair EX: solid and inferno both winked at eachother, they know what they each had in mind, solid focused his energy into the ground and pulled boulders from it, holding them in the air he formed them roughly into the shape of a dart tip, while holding it in place, inferno superheated the rock to make it a malliable form and then the dart tip became smooth and solid, harder than steel and solid winked at inferno as he hurled the deadly projectile at the so called "impenetrable door" Ex end: something like that, the names are a bit rough and spare of the moment, ill think about them. but let me know what you think.

Just make a character and post his bio, then we can review. Try to be as specific as possible in the bios. Include even the hair color, lol.

And the Shade can choose his own name, once he begins to have a personality seperate that of James. Which would probably happen in the first five minutes...lol. I like the dragon names, either is good. And it's perfect since James is invulnerable to fire; in fact fire is his preferred element to work with.

PM me with any questions about the Shade. Oh, and Magic, in my book anyway, tended to act as a balancing agent as well. If magic was abused (I.E too much magic was being channeled through a single source, like James) then the person who abused it would have an opposite made of him. A light vs dark balance kind of thing. If James dies, so does the Shade, since he is a mere shadow of him. But the Shade doesn't know that. He knows only what James knows at first, until he develops his own individual memories. He basically formed in a shadowy realm and was teleported into this world, you could say.

Something like that would work, but first, you need to work on your character(s) a bit.

First of all, what are their personalities? Are they outspoken, quiet, hot-tempered, smart, stupid, etc.?

Do they get along with each other? Bear in mind personality clashes as well as ideals; two short-tempered people who agree with each other on many issues will most likely get along, while two short-tempered people who disagree about almost everything will not.

What are their histories? A person's past will affect her; if she was abandoned as a young girl, she will most likely have trust issues. Beware of the Token Tragic Past--the past that, if it actually occurred to a real person, said person would likely be in his/her forties and STILL in therapy, in a corner somewhere drooling, or a serial killer, but that, in the story, seems to have no effect upon the character at all.

Don't focus too much on what the character can do; focus on who he/she is. Think about the difference between Superman and Batman: Superman's powers are extremely strong and he'd likely kick anyone's butt in a fight, but since the writers focused on the powers more than character development, he's pretty lame. Batman, however, doesn't have any powers at all, and yet the writers focused on developing him as a character (especially his past and how it affects him in his adult life; his parents were shot in front of him when he was eight and as an adult, he became a vigilante to "turn fear upon those who prey on the fearful"), and he's AWESOME.

Whew! Sorry; I know that's a lot. You probably know most of it anyway, but I tend to overexplain.

Any questions?
