Here in MA we have the same law from the same time period. The news today is that its coming up for debate to be changed.

I have no problem with gay marriages, but I do think other states should repect other state laws. So I don't think MA should marry people that their own state wouldn't marry.

Yet while make a big deal out of it. The state just has to say that document isn't valid in our state. So they would be married in Calif and not in WI.

I wonder why this thread isn't getting much attention. I think some people are remaining "in the closet" about the fact that their fear of homosexuals leads them to believe they deserve imprisonment for crossing state lines to marry.

Oh, yes please show me where this ridiculous idea has even been suggested or stated............

Why must all this false ........................nevermind.

And then people wonder how so much wrong information is out there about so many groups of people. I would have thought that those that complain the most about misinformation wouldn't do the very thing they suggest others are doing, but then I guess I would be wrong, wouldn't I?

1. Conservative, right-leaning Christians are vehemently opposed to homosexuals to the point where many vocally seek to impose discriminatory laws.

2. Conservative, right-leaning Christians are vehemently opposed to same-sex marriages, regardless of whether or not such unions affect them personally.

3. The Wisconsin Family Council is a conservative Christian human interests group located in Madison. Their statement of purpose, as per their website:

The Wisconsin Family Council (WFC) was founded in 1986 to forward Judeo-Christian principles and values in Wisconsin and to serve as an information source for the general public, churches and policymakers of our state. Our perspective is drawn from the wisdom of Scripture and reflects what we believe to be the intent of the Creator. Through these efforts, our hope is that more and more citizens of Wisconsin will become salt and light in their communities and in this state. As we join together, we can strengthen and preserve marriage, family, life & liberty in Wisconsin by making a difference in our culture and our government.

In other words, they are a Christian organization that has tremendous sway with their State government and they seek to impose legislation that is discriminatory based upon their interpretation of the Scriptures (which they openly admit in their missions statement they believe is the correct interpretation) under the guise of "strengthening families". Along with fighting against same-sex unions, the WFC also blames crime on single motherhood, claims that the "universally accepted" purpose of marriage is to control procreation, and they used National Breast Cancer Month to promote their pro-life views, not breast cancer awareness.

Now, you can try and claim I'm bearing false witness in assuming that there are Christians who would like to see homosexual couples imprisoned for nothing more than crossing state lines to get married in California, but there is obviously proof that there are Christian organizations out there urging Christian citizens to espouse such views. And it's pointless to try and argue that it has nothing to do with condemning homosexuals, when we're talking about a law that was adopted in 1915 and has not been used in decades to prosecute anyone crossing state lines to get married. Same-sex couples in Wisconsin are not expecting Wisconsin to recognize their marriages, as they already know under State laws they won't be. This is a blatant attempt to do something these Christians have wanted to do since gays and lesbians started "coming out" - imprison them for their "sinful lifestyle". Now they have a legal loophole through which they can execute such a sinister plan.

And for anyone who wants to claim that the WFC is some sort of minority fringe group, consider this (take directly from their website):

Fully Associated State Family Policy Council with Dr. James Dobson's Focus on the Family

There you have it, folks - a group pushing for the imprisonment of same-sex couples fully affiliated with Focus on the Family. Hardly a fringe group.

In case you'd rather read than watch the video, here are quotes:

Julaine Appling, executive director of the Wisconsin Family Council, said the state should enforce the law. (c) UPI

Julaine Appling, Chief Executive Officer of Wisconsin Family Council, says violators of the law should be charged with fraud.

"You purposely left the state for another state and you get married and you know it's not going to be legal where you reside and you have every intention of returning, that's defrauding the Government," Appling says.

Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard said doing so would be a "poor use of scarce prosecution resources."

"Someone has to prosecute them," charged Julaine Appling, CEO of Wisconsin Family Council. "That's a defrauding of the government."

It is crystal clear the religious right has such vehement hatred for LGBTs they want to harm them as a despised minority, forbidding their service in professions, living in certain areas, firing them from jobs, denying them access to hotels and restaurants, etc.----these are all things they have articulated which they desire to do.

The people aren't buying it. What we are seeing is a rear guard action of a dying evil culture getting shriller as it gets weaker.

Julaine Appling and Brian Blanchard said..................well that sure is a majority of all Christians.

Are you moving the goalposts? The question I thought you were asking was whether the ridiculous idea of fining or jailing gays from Wisconsin for getting married in California had ever been suggested or stated. I showed that it was in fact stated and suggested, and even advocated, by the head of the Wisconsin Family Council.

I hope the majority of all Christians do not agree with the Wisconsin Family Council. Some of their literature makes it sound like they claim to speak for the majority of Christians, and I hope the people of Wisconsin make it clear to their state government that they do not.

I doubt it's the majority of Christians; however, I highly doubt that a group that is fully affiliated with Dr. James Dobson and Focus on the Family represents a fringe minority of Christians in Wisconsin. I'm inclined to believe that just as FotF does, the WFC has a lot of influence over Wisconsin politics.

This is a typical religious right ploy. It is frequently used in this form: in response to attempts to refute religious right they cry "we are being attacked as Christians!" Of course, they are not being attacked for their religious affiliation whatsoever. They are being (verbally) attacked for their positions on the issues which most Christians do not share. They thus confuse people who are not Christians who sometimes process such misinformation as "Christians hate homosexuals" when the truth is a small segment of Christians does.

So again, do the majority of Christians just live in Wisconsin?

I can see several things that seem to be the problem here, and that would be Christians being influenced by groups and humans instead of God. IMHO.

I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.

I believe homosexuality is a sin.

I don't think that after the people in California voted that marriage was between a man and a woman that the court should have been able to override the people.

I don't believe Christians should vote that it is ok for gays to marry, since I don't believe it is a union that pleases the Lord.

Saying all that I think it is ridiculous to fine or jail gays for getting married in another state. I sadly believe they will have to answer to God, but see nothing in the scriptures that says they should be jailed. I will pray about it though.
