  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

An "emergency?" NOT!

Illinois' assault weapon ban is headed to the Supreme Court, and the plaintiffs are asking Justice Barrett to grant an "emergency" block of the law while the case is being decided.

When is an emergency not an emergency? The assault weapons ban is a tempered, sensible response to the very real emergency of too many murders, particularly in Chicago.

Just tell the plaintiffs to carry some other gun in their arsenals. I am repulsed that they would be depraved enough to call only having numerous other guns to choose from an "emergency."

The vast majority of gun violence in Democratically controlled Illinois, particularly Chicago is minority on minority crime, typically gang and drug related. It has been an emergency for decades - one being largely ignored by the media and politicians in non voting years.

I remember back in 2013:

From January 2006 through August 2013, thousands of cases involving a weapons violation were thrown out in Cook County’s criminal courts, The Chicago Reporter found. More than 13,000 cases that included a gun violation have been dismissed during that period, shows the Reporter’s analysis of records maintained by the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. In fact, more felony cases involving a gun–from illegal possession to unlawful sale to a felon–have been thrown out than cases with any other type of charge.
It continued in 2020:

In all, “25,183 people had their felony cases dismissed” per the Trib.

IMHO - if these career Democrats really want the murder to stop in the cities they have control over - how about locking up the criminals.

That doesn't make gun violence more acceptable. All the more reason the law to pass muster.
