How do we tell the difference between an attack of the devil and God testing us?
I think theres a lot of confusion around this issue. Some believe that theyre being chased by the devil, all the time it seems. Others believe that its actually a test from God. While others believe that the devil has been defeated and can no longer harm Christians today. Others still believe that the devil still has the power to deceive.
My own thoughts are God dealt with the whole issue of the devil on the cross, and that was the end of that. He didnt then rush around saying now what can I do to keep the devil away from the saints; it says He sat down at the right hand of the Father expecting His enemies to become His footstool. God has no problem with the devil and neither should we. I believe there are far too many people in the body of Christ who are far too often more afraid of what the devil can do against us, than what God has, and is, and will do for us. The Bible says give no foothold to the devil. And the dominion rests in the hands of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and so we do not need to concern ourselves with the devil. Who cares about the devil; God doesnt. My business in the Kingdom of God is not devil-bashing, its kingdom-building. So weve got to get a God-centred theology not a devil-centred theology.
And if the devil does attack? Well, Luke 10:19 says, Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
But what if God is testing? So whats the difference between an attack and a test?
