  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That is correct.

So what does that say for those who argued that I was wrong back then?

Nothing; you were wrong back then.

Also, regarding your assumptions, it was German scientists (among others) who suspected and proved the link between Thalidomide and birth defects, so it seems unlikely that Germans were developing Thalidomide for nefarious purposes. This is more apparent when one considers that Thalidomide was used in Germany as well.

So?

They started the fire ... they put it out.

What's your point?

That's like someone shooting someone, then applying first aid while claiming he didn't do it on purpose.
This is more apparent when one considers that Thalidomide was used in Germany as well.
I really don't care to defend my point, as it's a touchy subject ... even with me.

But to address what you just said:

What did you expect these guys to do? make Thalidomide off-limits to Germans?

I'm sure that would really raise some suspicious eyebrows.

Nothing now.

God put a stop to it (via Frances Kelsey) before our scientists got it imported into this [Christian] nation.
Oh, those evil scientists ....

My point is why create something to punish another group and then point out to the world how it is harmful?

If he did it on purpose, why would he be applying first aid?

Or make their Thalidomide pills in Germany without the actual Thalidomide, while letting the rest of the world get the actual Thalidomide. But let's say they did do it as you say, to avoid suspicion.

It's still a horrible plan; spend a bunch of time developing a drug that causes birth defects of varying degree and occasionally death some of the time if administered during specific times of pregnancy, distribute the drug in a very non-targeted way and then a few years later prove that it can be harmful which results in it no longer being prescribed to pregnant women, the end result being that ~20,000 people worldwide have birth defects; a number that while tragic, is barely a drop in the bucket in terms of punishing their WWII enemies.

Methinks they overlooked the existence of God, and didn't expect to have to recant so quickly.

They probably expected the U.S. to buy into it for awhile as well.

Can we drop it now?

I agree.

I would have been upset as well.

Frances Kelsey is Canadian. Funny that our Christian nation didn't get the benefits that yours did regarding Thalidomide.

Also, and this is a weird personal coincidence I just learned about, she was born in the town where I attended high school, and she got her BSc and MSc degrees from my alma mater. That's kinda cool.

What makes you think that the developers of Thalidomide weren't Christians? At that time the odds were fairly high that they were Christians.

Can we drop it now?

Sure, as long as you admit that you were wrong.

Excuse me....??

I gave you an explanation....you wanted to know what fuelled the "explosion". It was explained to you that the Big Bang DID NOT involve an explosion.......that's your explanation....!

I thought your religion had something to say about lying....?

But then...I guess that's what creationism is all about.....

I am sorry but whatever you want to call it (non explosion), what caused it?

That was my question and you know it.

You simply have no answer and that is fine, but don't trot around like you are answering questions when all you are doing is asking them.

Then you should ask more politely. I am sure that is has been explained to you many times that it was not an explosion. When you ask a question rudely it is very likely that you will get a rude answer.

And the correct answer as to cause is "We don't know, yet". Science is perfectly happy to admit when it does not know something. That does not imply "God" or anything else. They will keep looking into it until an answer is found. If there is an answer that can be found. Almost all scientific answers started out at one point in time as "We don't know, yet".

Yes, a very good link. The "question" was more of a false statement than a question and the "Best Answer' debunked many of his claims. I also have an excellent article that answers all of the errors of the apologists:

Edward T. Babinski - Biblical Errancy: Ezekiel's Prophecy of Tyre: a failed prophecy

I see your premise that the city of tyre was entirely on the island. However the greeks called the island "old tyre" and the mainland was the new tyre. Lots of info online about it. Tyre is gone, you have to dig down to get to it. All that is left is a fishing village on top of old tyre, nothing I think left of the mainland tyre either.

https://www.apologeticspress.org/apcontent.aspx?category=13&article=1790

"Nebuchadnezzar had not done this. History acquaints us with the fact that the Tyrians, before the destruction of the city had come, had removed their treasures to an island about half a mile from the shore. About 250 years later Alexander came against the island city. The ruins of Tyre which Nebuchadnezzar had left standing were used by Alexander. He constructed out of them with great ingenuity and perseverance a dam from the mainland to the rock city in the sea. Thus literally it was fulfilled, “They shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the water.” The sentence pronounced upon that proud city, for so long the powerful
mistress of the sea, “Thou shalt be built no more,” has been fully carried out."

Fundamentals of the Christian faith Vol 2 - E Gaeberlain.

An AronRa quote comes to mind: "Science doesn't know the answer to everything. Religion doesn't know the answer to anything."
Yet you can ALWAYS count on AronRa to get it wrong. God does have the answer for every question and the solution for every problem that we will ever have. In addition His promise to us is that He will cause all things to work out for the best. Science can not even come close to that.

There are many unanswered questions in science. That's why scientists do research. Currently, no one knows how universes come about, but research is being done on the question.

500 years ago we didn't know what the source of lightning was. Does that mean that God made lightning 500 years ago? Are you really saying that the best place to find God is in our ignorance?

It does not matter what the Greeks called Tyre. It matters what Zeke and the boys called Tyre. To them, if you read the Bible, it was the island city.

All old cities build on top of themselves. The fact that you may have to dig in places to get to the old buildings does not mean that Tyre is not still there. If you go by that standard then London is no longer there since it has been rebuilt several time over.

Also it said that Tyre (again the island city, in fact the etymology of Tyre is "rock" for the rock the city was built on) would be swept clean never to be rebuilt again. New buildings are there. The whole places was never swept clean. Even if the prophesy is extended to Alex, the Muslims, the Romans, all of the people that regularly conquered that island it was never utterly destroyed never to be rebuilt.

Plain and simple it is one of the most obvious failed prophesies in the Bible.

And you keep forgetting about the second part of the twofer. Nebby was supposed to defeat Egypt. He didn't.

That certainly can't be said for a literal interpretation of Genesis.
I do believe in a literal interpretation. There are many interpretations of Genesis and as far as I am concerned they are all accurate and true from their own perspective. One of the greatest believers in YEC was Bishop Ussher and I am still waiting for anyone to show anything in his book that is not 100% accurate and true.

Two words: Population bottleneck.

For the fossils three words: Microscopic index fossils.

Landforms: Incised meanders.

God does have the answer for every question and the solution for every problem that we will ever have.

How's your god doing with world hunger and a cure for cancer. Any progress from your god on the HIV and AIDS front? Oh that's right, your god doesn't exist does he. Or if he does, he's not done anything for over 13 and a half billion years.

In addition His promise to us is that He will cause all things to work out for the best.
Yeah, that way you can pretend that disease and starvation and dying in childhood are all good things really.

Science can not even come close to that.
Thank goodness!
