  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

To me, American Idol is just another reminder of how the music industry is slowly strangling popular music to death. Nothing against the performers-- many of them are genuinely talented singers/performers-- but this show makes me sick. My god-daughter sure loves it though...

If you make it to the top 5 somebody will write you a song with a nice beat and mellody so you'll become rich and famous
True about the songwriting, true about the famous... I think the "rich" part is just an illusion though... Consider this article by Steve Albini, producer of Nirvana's "In Utero" album:

i agree that it doesn't guarantee much, except a few minutes of fame
On the other hand, I suppose there are worse things people will do for their shot at fame, or being on tv, or whatever-- consider shows like Jackass, "reality" television or any of the idiotic "date" shows (Elimidate, Blind Date, 5th Wheel, etc.) Nauseating what lengths people will go to for attention and a chance of being famous...

American Idol is my favorite reality show. Out of all the winners and the runners up my favorite idol is Fanstasia. Then Clay,Rueben, and Kelly. Out of the other finalist I also liked Tamyra Gray, Kimberly Caldwell, Latoya London, and even Nikki McKibbin(I didn't think she did that bad).
