  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There was blessing to this land for those in it to work and contribute to betterment, America had people doing this which was admirable to others. If we are in America as it is made great, or made "great again", it will happen just with the betterment being worked for and contributed to still, for the people here and the country with the nature there, and for people in other places in the world. This we can do, we should watch and see, are we doing that, to be sure, to do still.

We of age in this country can vote, but if we do this it isn't meant for us to leave it to those we voted for, and even what we voted for, to do everything there should be done for any such betterment, as there is that tendency, if those votes succeed, and to just give up on what was voted for that doesn't succeed. There won't be everything, or a great many things, getting better from that. There is much more for us to do as individuals, in America, as there is for most who are anywhere in the world, for betterment where we can see it is possible from us, in any way.

Just returned from trip to Plano Texas and on the way to the bathroom at some burger joint some guy cracked a joke about texans carrying guns. it was funny at the time but i can't remember it to relate it here. but yeah, i'd say america is known for loving der guns. the second ammendment for the win.

what was funny is that the church i went to during my time in texas, they had a sign on the window stating that guns are allowed. and below that it said, "and judicial markmanship is appreciated."

lol

There are the mass shootings that have been happening in this country, because of that there are people wanting to arm themselves with guns, to be armed against that still happening, and against other violence by use of guns which may happen to them. These things that develop are not a good thing about America, there is betterment pursued with a good character that has been admirable in American individuals and this can still happen. Those who lobby for tighter gun controls are responding to these same troubles, and that pursuit is also understandable. Guns should not be so available that children and those likely in any way to misuse them would be able to acquire them. But we can look further to root causes before such would use guns in violent ways as with mass shootings, and deal with those issues effectively instead. With all the good things about America, we here should still pursue things for betterment seriously, so that leaving things as they are won't lead to what is worse.

There is this growing divide in the population here, that does not help. Neither does the number of families being divided, with some parents never to have their children again at the border with the policies enforced there.

Republicans vs Democrats is the new Bloods vs Crips.

Red or Blue, no matter what.

Pathetic really but hopefully rock bottom will knock some common sense around.

If it were literally that bad, I would be dead or have blood on my hands.

This is the thread about America and all things American that you like or love.

Kind of hard for me to comment on this as I'm not American, so my perception of America is largely from the media. Obviously, the media doesn't provide a good representation of normality, as it's in the nature of the media to push stories it deems newsworthy and saleable, the exception is amplified over than the rule, "man bites dog" etc. Not many people I talk to seem to realize this, most people aren't critical thinkers; they unquestioningly assume that what they see on TV is a window to normality regarding America (and the world in general, which is why propaganda works but I digress.) So, from what we see, we assume that America is a land of guns and mass shootings, racism, women with plastic boobs and excessive makeup, terrible music and unhealthy food. That's obviously a very selective picture we're being fed; we're being fed trash, so we assume America = trash, but interestingly enough people also adopt trash as their ideals after a while as part of cultural assimilation. It's interesting watching people here react to Americans when they visit, all kinds of assumptions are made about them based on what they've seen on TV.

Here's what you can tell everybody you know: If life in America was just like what we watch on TV, none of us would watch TV. TV generally needs to be different from real life in order to do well. Even "reality TV" - the people that watch those shows do so because the people they're watching are different than they are.

Yes, I realize this. That's why I mentioned the journalistic principle "man bites dog", ie sensationalism. The problem, as I also mentioned, is that most people don't think critically, at least not with much consistency. I think to some degree we're all sponges whether we like it or not, we've got so much crap and noise flying at us 24/7 now in the social media era that it gets past your BS filter. Which is why I mentioned why propaganda works too. But yeah am going off on a tangent about how I hate the media now, so I'll leave it here.

Television is not really showing things just the way they are any more than other media, and it doesn't for America. Yet there are bad trends, even some of those depicted on television, that are current in America. Yet such trends involve individuals. As individuals, we still have our effect, and for us in America, we have the choices with which we can contribute to betterment for society, and we can choose for doing that, with effect.
