  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone had any success with these? My friend swears by them and I had never heard of it before. Any experiences you'd be willing to share? I am interested in ordering one for when the wee one starts teething.

One of my little ones pinched me all the time when she was nursing. A nursing necklace actually Did help! It was enough of a distraction that she played with that instead of pinching me (most of the time anyway ;)).

JD has one that is a bracelet our neighbor made for him. He wears it around his ankle above where his sock comes. It has helped TREMENDOUSLY as he is teething. I do not get bitten or punctured anymore when he nurses.

We got it from my MIL who went to the barber next door who also does "healing stones" and the like. He happened to have amber and told my MIL about the necklaces and bracelets. I had been discussing it with her and said, hey if it works -- I'm in! I'd heard nothing but good about it.

Apparently what happens is that the amber is a natural analgesic. When it makes contact with the skin, the amber content releases just a bit into the skin allowing the pain levels to not be so high. (at least that is how it has been explained to us)

I change the leg that JD wears it on every day, and he's been tons less fussy/screamy since we got it a couple weeks ago. I do still have to numb his gums once in a while with his medicine, but on the whole that's maybe once every 3 days compared to 3-4 times a day like before.

I have heard of adults getting amber necklaces as well, and it helping them manage their pain. Since it has helped JD so much, I am sorely tempted to have my DH go next door with me and ask if our neighbor knows where we can get an amber necklace locally in my size (at the very least 16 inches, so I don't choke myself with it and it looks good with outfits). I have to deal with some arthritis issues and the back pain left over from my car accidents. I can't take anything more than a tylenol while EBF so, Amber would be a great help.

I heard on another forum that a lot of women wear them and it's helped with sorting out their PMS symptoms.

I think it's interesting.
The links I've read mentioned wearing it near the area in pain so I guess the necklace is close enough to the teeth :)
Maybe you can find an amber belt :D

I can see it now... the hospital gown and my amber belt. What are you doing? Oh this is just my pain management belt :D

Can I suggest teething tablets as well? They're all natural and SO much better than Orajel. They help Remy so much that now he opens his mouth for them. My best friend gives them to her daughter, too, and said she's seen a HUGE difference.

I don’t see how fossilized tree sap has any particular healing abilities or how it is better than other teething rings. Amber can be harder than a normal teething ring, but I don’t see it as being “chewy.” I would be worried about 1) baby chewing through the string and swallowing/chocking on the beads or 2) breaking the beads. Unless it’s high quality amber, then it can break or shatter. Sometimes some amber can have kind of light vanilla like scent to them.

I’m sure there is some sort of placebo effect of wearing amber—but I haven’t seen any sort of hard, statistical research that supports the idea that wearing amber helps with pain. Maybe there may be some sort of benefits if taken internally—but I just cannot see how just wearing it would heal anything. I have several amber pieces that I have worn off and on for years, but I still have the same ailments that I always had.

I donno, my friend makes them and sells them for $14.00- dosen't seem overpriced to me. And I've had a few friends swear by them. Never once needing teething tablets, tylenol or anything like that. Doesn't sound like a waste of money to me if it keeps the baby happy.

I dunno. All I can say is this. Day before we had it and day we got it, we had a child screaming his head off even with the gel we have for him.

Got the bracelet and put it on, and he's become more himself again. Until those two teeth cut all the way through though, I don't expect him to be in a great 100% mood again.

I can't use any of the traditional US medications either, we do not have them here. I just have "Dentinox" for teething, and it numbs him long enough that he can deal with the bouts of minor pain when he isn't knawing.

Mine was a gift, but I know it wasn't more than 15$.
