  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Right I just discovered something amazing...

There was this teenage girl who was pregnant, she had a husband who was much older than her and he wasn't the father (no it's not time to ring in to Jeremy Kyle).
She decides to tell him and when he finds out he's is ready to blow a fuse. However, after sleeping on it, he decides to stand by her, she's scared and he loves her and he knows she's been honest with him, even though it's hard to trust her.

Nine months later a baby is born. Not in a hospital, or a home with some fancy waterbath...no midwife, just the man, the girl and a couple of strangers who happened to have turned up. This tiny baby is born in a stable amongst the sweat, dirt, blood, freezing, squalid conditions, a place fit for animals, because there simply was nowhere else and no one would let them even have a room for one night.

The mother has survived, and cries with all the pain and joy of coming through a birth, one the child mirrors. The husband knows he has done right by the mother and child and looks on with love, holding the girl in his arms. The onlookers, stunned by the glorious event they have seen, the creation of a life in such a dark place, and feel honoured to have been included.

This was no event to be forgotten or trivialised, it was a real event. Birth is a time when pain and joy intertwine, difficult for both mother and child. The child grows up to become a king, but one of men, who walks and lives and breathes and feels....Jesus wept.....he wept real tears, with grief and compassion for a friend and friends who had just lost a brother (John 11.17-37).

He is not someone to think of like a character in a book, or a vague historical figure. He was born in a shed for animals, he taught, he loved, he felt grief and pain, and he died...he died for me, one of the grubby little animals in the pen, and he lived again, and he still lives. He is real and he is with us every moment in every way and he loves us.

How awesome is that?
