I'm starting to think TAR is back in Emmy winning form, but I'm going to need another episode or three before I make a final verdict. I didn't hate the Family edition, but it just... well, it just wasn't the same. I am really enjoying this season so far and as the miles and footage (aka editing potential) add up, its bound to leave Survivor, the Apprentice and Celebrity Fit Club in it's wake.
A handful of non-spoiler comments, despite it being past the 12 hour safe period:
- BJ and the Bear are in darn good condition. They both look skinny and (make pot joke here) but they handled both the fire escape and ascender tasks with speed. I'm not convinced they couldn't have outrun the frat boys in a dash for 1st.
- Speaking of the frat boys, they're pigs. Decent guys flirt with a girl into herself - nice arms, how often do you work out. Pig flirt - nice arms, can I grab your bottom. Pigs. I can't stand them.
- And the testerone leads me to my next observation - both Lake and Michelle were wearing patches on their necks. Did they decide TAR was the right time to quit smoking? Will Lake's patch become more prominent as the veins in his head start to expand when he becomes angrier?
- Speaking of channelling energies/Karma/mojo, are the producers dissing Monica and Joseph by continuing to call them Joseph and Monica - Jo Mo, instead of their preferred "Mo Jo?"
- There are atheists in foxholes, but given how much prayer and supplication to the Almighty has been voiced on just two shows, there are apparently no atheists on The Amazing Race.
- In my issue of TV Guide some weeks ago Phil commented that Yvonne had the best legs of the women Racers. I didn't see it in the first episode, but as she did the ascender I had to agree. Is there anything in her bio about being an Olympic class sprinter?
- Next week Russia. I realize most of the footage will be about the tasks, but I would love to see how the Racers do on an 18 hour flight (assuming no layovers) from Brazil to Russia.
