• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

hi,

I've never thought I was bipolar, but now i'm starting to wonder...

can someone get it later in life?

I'm depressed alot lately, but sometimes I'll be like super hyper, and sort of talk to myself making little jokes about what I'm doing at the moment and laughing to myself... silly I know. Like I'm very buzzed, and have too much energy, so I can't sleep until I calm down. But it's like I can't control it, you know? Like i'm watching myself from outside my body, telling myself in my head to stop, cuz i probably look weird, but I can't.

Then an hour later I'll be back to normal, or feeling sad again.

My manias (hypomanias actually0 did not appear until my 40's, although i had episodes of depression on and off through out my life since my teens and adult yeras, sever enough to be on meds short term twice. Otherwise I would say I lived a "normal" life until my mid 30's when the depression became relentless and untreatable, after about 10 years of depression then the manias began appearing. Not sure if this helps but yes, my Dad's symptoms did not become severe enough to be diagnosed until his 50's, but the symptoms where there just very minor and infrequent before that.

I think you might talk with your doctor about your symptoms. We can not offer professional services here and diagnosis is consider a professional service.

I can say that most bipolar episodes last far longer than an hour. However, you need to get an authoritarian answer from your doctor not from me.
