  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Am I your enemy

Depends.
I view many of you as enemies since we have different faiths.

I mean if you just accepted me as going to heaven, then you acknowledge my faith and vice versa. Which is something I personally don't do and don't really understand those who accept everyone who believes in God somehow. Anyways, "What is the gospel?" Isn't only one chapter or book. The New Testament was built on a foundation, the old testament laws, prophecies and psalms. Christ Jesus came to fulfill these according to Luke 24:44. I suppose then, the more you line up your understanding of the NT to how the OT is then you would come to a fuller understanding of what the gospel is. How can you know how to do things correctly if you skip the foundation? This is why I reject many common doctrines people hold, especially praying for forgiveness of sins

Paul made this statement in Galatians 4:16Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

What I'm interested in is what is the truth and what do you extablish it on? And why yes I and you both have our ideas.

Paul preached the Godpel according to chapter 4.

So must we then ask what is the Gospel?

I do not consider anybody who disagree with me an enemy. And even if you were I am commanded by God Almighty to love you, anyway.

(Even though I don't recall you, sorry )

Thanks but no thanks. I really don't care for superficial commanded love. I love the genuine article that comes from the heart and not because someone is told to do so. That kind of love is worthless. Iguess that is one of the things I love about my dogs. They love me no matter what I do to them. Of course I give them an easy meal twice a day.

How very sad. Religion stinks and does no favors for mankind.

Your confession is interesting. It saddens my heart though. It illustrates a major problem with religion though. Isn't it a sin called pride? Sure one best believe what they say they follow and give alliegence to. I 've got no problem with that. Aproblem does arise because it seems quite a few folks here seem to take everything as a personal attack. I'm really only interested in batting around some doctrines. I and a good neighbor have major doctrinal issues, but we still are friendly and neighborly to each other. We even visit some.

And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner.

You had a point if God's commandments were merely commandments and nothing else, as if He would not give us the Grace necessary to love deeply.

But in any case, you aren't my enemy.

Thank you for saying that I'm not your enemy.

I did start to respond to your other comments and decided not to. It would only cause an argument.

I will say that God created us with a free will that can exhibit love from the heart at a persons will without being told to do so.

the gospel as i know, is that there is a kingdom coming to this earth to rule forever and we have a chance to be in that kingdom. however, the only way to enter is through Jesus, who is the Christ.

So are you saying that we currently aren't part of the Kingdom of God? I'm not speaking in the sense of the kingdom now movement. I'm not speaking of the coming of the kingdom at the end of the age either. The NC covenant is now in existence per Jesus' pronouncement.

I was thinking along similar lines the other day. The gospel is simple. Believe in what Jesus accomplished for all and trust Him. Nothing more, nothing less. However, the loaded term here is believe. Many place additional requirements on Jesus own words. If you believe in Him, and if you believe in what my church teaches, and if you believe in such and such doctrine, blah, blah, blah, ad infinitum.

Personally, I believe that all that have faith and trust in Jesus are my brother and sister. We might disagree on the finer points of theology but in God's eyes, by His gift of justification by His grace through faith in the Son, we are equally sons of God and consequently brothers and sisters. As such, we have been made a new creation subject to the conviction of the Spirit and subject to the two great commandments. We don't follow these commandments because we have a checklist or because we must but because we genuinely love Jesus. When one genuinely loves Jesus then following and obeying Him becomes second nature and as He so eloquently professes, His burden is light.

Anyway, no, no one here is my enemy. None. Even those that I so vigorously debate against.;)

Love becomes second nature. Yes i agree. I think Love does come from the Lord and it slowly becomes a part of us over time as we abide in Him. But this doesn't mean that we shouldn't obey the written word when we are still maturing and fall short of fulfilling the will of God, and we are probably never so mature that we cant find something to learn and obey from the written word. And if we fall short on love due to immaturity then its good to obey the written word that says love thy neighbor as thyself by treating them the way we want treated, this is probably why its written down for us, because we should obey it when it isn't yet second nature to us. Just because the Lord is the power behind our transformation doesn't mean that we are not still obligated to obey the written word when we fall short due to our immaturity. The written word is there for us to obey until the Lord finishes His good work in us. But we should always rest in Gods forgiveness and Grace when we fail to obey. And love for the brethren means not judging one another, but the bible says that we should carefully rebuke each other in a loving and careful manner, being careful not to offend the conscience of others with our liberty.
