• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. Hi everyone my nan died at end of August.
very unexpectadly. I miss her a lot.
I dreamt of her again last night. She came into my room.
We hugged each other. I asked if she was ok, she said she was though it wasnt a brilliant ok. Am i still grieving? How long does it take.
I guess I was thinkin of her yesterday.
Im not particulary looking forward to christmas because she wont b there we will b staying with her daughter and husband where she used to live.

My mom died in June.

Wish I could tell you how long it takes, but it is different for everyone.
I'm still grieving - although it is much more bearable if that makes since.

Like you I'm not looking forward to Christmas either, because it won't be the same without my mom. The important thing to remember is Christmas is about the birth of Christ and not about tinsel, garland, lights, and tree's.

Try to make new memories and honor the best of your old memories with your Nan. Years ago at Christmas time, I used to keep 7 lighted (electric) candles in my window for each of my brothers, to guide them home. The year my brother died I changed the bulb on his candle to blue to signify that his bulb had gone out. Maybe it will help you to do something like that for your Nan, or some other tradition that honors her. If she had something that she did each Christmas, take it over for her if you can.

But mostly remember your Nan most likely wouldn't want to be the reason you don't enjoy the holidays. My guess is she would want you to be happy.
