  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This isn't right for everybody so please don't attack me but:

I have asked God about this bc of my prior experience with atheists who have ragged on me for wearing clothing they think is too provacative for a christian but its sometimes really upset me. So I used to think theyre going straight to Hell. But I now believe that when you die, God will show himself to you, and ask: if you REALLY believe that there is no God. After that, if you say no then you will go to Hell but if you say okay he might give you a chance to correct your mistakes or just send you to Hell temporarily b4 bringing you back up to heaven. jmho

I've never heard this answer before. But, if you can simply change your mind after death, is there any point in believing in him now?

Well that is not biblical.

To the OP:

Yes you will go to hell, if you don't believe in Yeshua:

Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

But that quote does not explicitly say what happens to non-believers.

Revelation 21:8
But as for the cowards and the ignoble and the contemptible and the cravenly lacking in courage and the cowardly submissive, and as for the unbelieving and faithless, and as for the depraved and defiled with abominations, and as for murderers and the lewd and adulterous and the practicers of magic arts and the idolaters (those who give supreme devotion to anyone or anything other than God) and all liars (those who knowingly convey untruth by word or deed)--[all of these shall have] their part in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.

Ah. That's rather explicit. Then, my next question is: Do you think I deserve it?

Yes, we all do.

Romans 3:23
Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.

Romans 6:23
For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.

Does that mean you think not believing in god is a worse crime than, say, murder or rape? If so, why don't you absolutely despise atheists/people of other religions?

Yes.

Because they reject Yeshua's ultimate sacrifice on the cross.

I don't despise them, I feel sorry for them, I weep for the lost, for they are blind and lost.

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people's conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.

2 Corinthians 4:4
For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers' minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.
2 Corinthians 4:3-5 (in Context)

Then yes, your punishment for an eternity of unresolved sins is an eternal judgement.

X+infinity = infinity

Where x is your sins, plus never repenting. That equals an infinite judgement.

Then, what would you say to someone like me? Surely, you can't just accept the fact that I'm doomed for eternity?

You're still alive, you can still turn to God, ask for forgiveness of all of your sins, ask for Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, and repent of your sins.

EDIT
but yes, otherwise you're "doomed for eternity."

I think about this literally every day and I figure, I don't see a reason to believe in him, so if he want me to, he should come to me. From a neutral, rational point of view, you have to understand my position - that I have seen no reason to turn to him.

I understand completely what you're position is. I actually once was there! And, one day contemplating my life up to that point (which was in the hour before I was saved), I had noticed that God actually had come to me–several times in my life!

I will be praying for you! I can't really help you, and there is such a moment where God is the only one who can soften your heart and open your eyes.
