The Bible says we are free. Exactly what does that mean? I know that sin leads to death. But does that mean I am free to do anything I want as long as I don't sin?
For one thing, unless we have the freedom to say no, everytime we say yes is meaningless.

Yes, you can do anything or everything you want, under the new covenant. And the apostle Paul repeats this four times to emphasize that truth. Because your righteousness, isn't affected by either your sinfulness or your sinlessness. (If it were, then that's a works doctrine...that somehow you can earn your righteousness. That's simply self-righteousness.)

But Paul cautions, not anything or everything will be beneficial to you. Or constructive to you. Or productive to you. Or bring life to you. And, he says, I will not be mastered or addicted to anything, be in bondage of anything, or be entrapped by such things.

But you can still do it if you want. And if you choose to do things that are destructive instead of constructive to you, your life might just suck because of it, and there's not God or the devil to blame. Just you. But you have the freedom to do so.

When scripture talks about believers being free it is in regards to freedom from the Law and the punishments it brought with it. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. James defines sin as "knowing the right thing to do and not doing it". So yes, we are free to do anything we want as long as we don't sin. :) That said, just because we may choose to do something that is of sinful nature does not mean that we are now not free. We are still free to repent, get up from our fallen position, and continue walking with God and trusting in Him for our Salvation and keeping our minds and hearts on Him so that we don't fall again. We are free from the "law of sin and death", meaning that we are no longer bound to the bidding of our sinful natures. We are free to do what is right. We are called overcomers, so with the Holy Spirits help and guidance we learn to overcome. It's not easy but it is possible. It takes time to get our flesh under subjection. It's a learning process.
