I know what he has saying because I had a conversation with him. I have met a lot of Calvinists, who though I disagree with on predestination, they generally have a view that you if you are concerned about salvation and believe then you are probably predestined. They don't let anything hold you from coming to Jesus. What he has said is that even if you are worried, there is nothing you can do but wait until regeneration happens. I have found nowhere in the Bible where someone is kept from being saved because they weren't elected, rather they are encouraged to believe.
Secondly, before you can love God with all your heart, you have to experience his grace. Love isn't just something you can decide to have. I don't get how you can claim salvation is all by grace but then state that you must be willing to surrender your life to God. That just sounds like every other religion in the world that talks about you having to a work to be saved. How can you experience God's grace if you are constantly focusing on what you do? For me it is either one or the other, either I just believe and am saved, or it is nothing but works with a different name. There is no middle ground.
And really, is any Christian truly loving God with all there hearts, mind, and soul, AND their neighbor as them self every second of every day? Because if not, they are sinning. We like to have this view of ourselves that we only sin on rare occasions after we are Christians, but the fact of the matter is that we sin so much even after being saved we cannot comprehend it.
End of my emotional rant.
First off something is wrong because you are not understanding the truth. You do have to surrender your self to God. God wants all of you. Now I did not speak of works. But God said faith with out works in dead, read James. He said The Holy Spirit brings forth works from us, again Jesus sermon on I am the True Vine. He says everyone in Him produces fruit, not by a persons own means but because the Tree(Jesus), brings forth fruit from us the branches.
God does not require we do anything ourselves but give completely are self. What that looks like is complete dependence on God. Now you might not understand that. What that looks like is the person can not go a day with out connecting to God is some way. That is required of us, they God produces works from us. God calls it forth not us, and we do not earn anything, but we are willing to be used by God, That what the surrender is, you wish to do His will above your own.
Now we all sin, anyone who says they do not sin is a liar, but we have forgiveness.
The grace that brought us to Love God was Jesus giving His life paying our debt for sins, when a person realizes this they break down and cry, that is the Love. You Love God from the second you are saved that is what getting saved is. It is not saying Jesus is the Son of God, demons say this same things yet will never be saved. It is surrender and love of God. Then you pass from death to life.
