Is it possible for someone with Alzheimer's or Dementia to commit a mortal sin? (or any sin?) And, if they were diagnosed with this terrible disease, does that mean al past sins are already forgiven since they can't articulate them?

Would they have a free pass to heaven or purgatory?

Something I've thought about a lot, recently.

I don’t see how someone in the full throes of those diseases could be responsible for their sins. Those sins before the disease if they did not repent would be the issue imo.

That’s what I’m thinking as well.
