Does anyone know how much altering of a photo can be done? As in facial expressions, taking away something like a dot on a pic?? And would a photography shop be the place to go for that?

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A great deal can be done to digital (or digitized) pictures by a skilled person. See here for an example of the kind of things routinely done to magazine photos. I don't know how to go about finding such people, though. Changing a facial expression to something else would be rather difficult, I would think.

There is a free program that is very good for digital drawing touching up etc. Lots of fun too.
It is called gimp. They have some great turotials too. Works much like photoshop, but has some real nice features.

there is another program called paint.net which is free and about as powerful as photoshop elements.

I take photo retouching a bit farther. Not only do I photoshop the tarnation out of it, I can bring it into LightWave or other FX program and ... oh my goodness. For example, I can take a photograph of a street and turn it into a video clip of a car driving by with you driving the car if you'd like. It takes a little more time and effort, but the end results are worth it.

Actually the beauty of the internet is that two, or more people don't necessarily need to be geographically close in order to work together or for eachother.
