  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok, so my question is: i was baptized as a infiant right? Yet, I have not been a true-catholic. In fact, i just re-found catholiosim in my life, and i want to become apart of it. But I am wondering if i need to go through RICA (or something) , or can i go to comfirmation right away? Any suggestions? (if u suggest stuff, explain what each things are, cuz i might not have heard of them before :p ) I am hearing that i should go through all the steps, but to be sure ask a priest, which i am going to do, but i wanna know what u guys think.

So are were baptized but not Confirmed in the Church, right?

Did you take CCD classes as a kid? If not, or if you feel that you need to learn more about the faith before formally accepting it before God, then it wouldn't hurt to go through RCIA.

I think i know a lot about the faith because of this site and its ppl :) but idk, RCIA wouldnt hurt (as u said hehe)
What are the classes like? like...how long does it take?(Cupple weeks? or months?) and how many hours in it/times a day?

Well, it goes from around Sept-ish to April and is usually one night a week for an hour or two. It covers everything you need to know to make an informed decision on joining the Church.

Since its now towards the end of the RCIA season, you may have to wait till next time, but its up to your priest/parish.

I was sort of in the same boat as you about 10 years ago. I was a cradle Catholic. I was baptized, went to Catholic elementary school and made my first reconciliation and communion. After that, my mom re married, we moved, only went t o church on Christmas and Easter and then never went. It wasn't until I went to college and met my husband that I started attending church again and it wasn't until after one amazing priest that I really wanted my faith. I went to RCIA classes, which were one night a week from Sept. to March/April and then on that Easter Vigil I received the gift of confirmation. I would highly recommend taking the RCIA classes, it's amazing how much you will learn. Praying for you on this journey. God Bless.

It surely couldn't hurt to go through RCIA more than once. I'm considering becoming a sponsor which would allow me to experience it. (I'm a cradle-Catholic.)

I know you cannot be Baptised more than once as a Christian, but Confirmation is another deal. It varies by faith. If you were confirmed in the Catholic Church in the past and the records were lost, I don't believe that it would hurt to do it again. I was confirmed at age 9. Though I was young, I remember it well. I remember being drilled on Catechism. Man!

Note that Catholics recognize Christian Baptisms and don't have converts from other Christian faiths "re-baptised". They do need to be confirmed. Catholics do not recognize Mormon baptisms as their theology is fundamentally different. I think it's the same with Jehovah's Witnesses...

I would encourage you to seek out an adult rogram for confirmation and or "returning Catholics"

I was in teh samne boat and discovered that despite having attended Cathoilc schools and universities all my life I needed to have an adult appreciation of tha faith not what Sr Mary taught me in the 4th grade. (God rest her soul - she was a gem despite my ear still hurting from being twisted when I taljked too much!! LOL)

Dig in and read and then balance it with an experiential living of the faith as well. Beware that one needs balance of both. I am all too easily seduced by reading the Summa and getting lost in my head. I have to make an effort to have my head and heart and soul all connected.

On eof the best things for my "adult" appreciation of Catholicism and interior life has been the "In Conversation with God" series of meditation books by Fr Fernandez. Yuo can buy them individually or the set by the liturgical calendar. I highly recommend them. Also "Divine Intimacy" if you like a more Carmelite approach to spirituality.

Best of luck to you and WELCOME HOME!!!

God Bless!

John
