Have you ever been on an Alpha course?

I have heard of it, but I don't know much about it. It is widely used by low to middle church Anglicans in Britain.

Yes, I participated in two Alpha courses at a Presbyterian Church (EPC) in the Washington D.C. area in the 90s. Overall, I thought it was beneficial. I remember learning of and reading Tolstoy's A Confession, which is mentioned in the course.

Also, the church that I attended omitted a couple of the sessions in the course. I also attended a Baptist Church which also used the course, but also only used selected sessions.
