Alpha course

Hi all!

I was invited by a friend to join a catholic church's Alpha course, but she didnt know much detail about this course herself. Can anyone pls share with me what is Alpha course? Is it something like RCIA? Anyone here been through the course before?

I have no experince with Alpha, but the following articles don't paint it in a postive light:

Alphas brilliant!! I became a Christian because of an Alpha course.

Its a really laid-back, non-judgemental, fun course on the basics of Christianity. And people are a loud to have their own opinions and be respected.

I say do it!!! Its the best thing I ever did.

It's basically "Jesus 101". We have a group at our parish and it's very basic and stays away from discussing any denomation in any detail. I have never attended but I have friends who just not had a strong walk with Christ who are attending this and reporting good results.

My hope is that once people get through Alpha that they either go to RCIA again (for review) and then find some orthodox Catholic group to continue spiritual growth.

I'd like to see Alpha retooled to be more specific to Catholic teachings.
