  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Almost Methodist?

I've posted a few questions on this forum about Methodist churches and beliefs; appreciated the answers and discussions. My husband and I have attended a small Methodist church for almost 3 months, but haven't joined.

Today, at work, I received a layoff notice. My husband has been out of work for over a year. Feeling a little lost - in the past, we've always had a "church family" to lean on for prayer support.

The members at this small church have been very friendly, but we really don't know them very well. I'm still trying to remember everyone's name - seems a little awkward to bring up our situation.

Am I overthinking this?

Probably.

Ask yourself this question, if this faith community was a simply a group of neighbors who all lived along the same street or in the same cul-d-sac, and you were looking for a house in that part of town and learned there was a house that fit your physical needs and budget, how quickly would you say YES to having them for neighbors?

If you would like to have them for next door and backyard neighbors, and you find the teaching orthodox, then, in the words of John Wesley:
"If your heart is true to my heart as mine is to yours, then give me your hand."

If you've been at a Methodist church for 3 months, you're definitely part of the family by now.

Layoffs are rough and can shake up life some. My prayers are with you
Thanks. Our life has gone through multiple shake ups in the past 6 months. Surgery, changing churches and we'll probably be moving soon.

We've not "officially" joined the church, but I changed my icon to Methodist. Guess I'm almost there!

We did sign up to attend the confirmation classes starting in a week. Can't wait to learn more about Methodists and asking questions.

When I first started thinking about visiting the church, I didn't know enough about Methodists to even ask many questions. As a Baptist, I didn't have contact with any Methodists (was highly discouraged when I was growing up). I've learned a lot in the past few months - by talking to the pastor and also on this forum.

Looking forward to all the upcoming changes in our lives - at least it won't be boring!

Something interesting happened at church yesterday. One of the ladies asked if either of us heard anything about a job yet. I told her, no, we were still waiting. She said she was working on the other end (prayer).

Today, my husband received a call about a job and has a phone interview tomorrow. I received an email from a friend about a local job - I called the recruiter and I have an interview tomorrow.

Looking forward to these opportunities tomorrow! Prayers would be appreciated.

My husband's new job is a 6 month contract and 7 hours away. He's driving there today to be ready to start work Monday morning. He drove the better of our 2 vehicles (the one I have is 20 years old and not working well). So, our son will be driving me around for now. I don't think my husband will be able to come home for Easter - lots of adjustments for us.

Hope to hear something about my job interview this week! Prayers to all the other job seekers out there - for patience and willingness to accept where God leads.
