BOSTON (AP) — The archbishop of Boston has ordered an investigation into allegations of misconduct made by former seminarians.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley said in a statement on Friday that he’s unable to verify or disprove the allegations about St. John’s Seminary but called them a “source of serious concern.”

O’Malley said the allegations were made online by two former seminarians.

O’Malley did not provide details about the allegations, but one man who identified himself as an ex-seminarian said in a blog post that he witnessed inappropriate behavior, including sexual misconduct and alcohol abuse.

O’Malley says St. John’s Rector, Msgr. James Moroney, will go on sabbatical leave for the fall semester so there can be a “fully independent inquiry.”

The investigation will be overseen by a group including Assumption College President Francisco Cesare.

One man who identified himself as a former St. John’s seminarian said he “began to receive creepy texts from a strange number, looking to hookup with me. Found out it was a fellow seminarian. When I brought it forward this was the response: ‘ ‘Its not like he sent you pictures of his penis, don’t overexaggerate and act like a victim’ -vocations director. ... I never trusted the church again and it put me in a 4 year long state of serious depression. One that I’m finally beginning to get over.”

There is nothing new under the sun.

The same seminary that was ground zero of the Boston abuse scandal that exploded.
If it's at that seminary it is probably at a dozen or two other ones. Housecleaning time big time. Not a little bit of air freshener but gallons of bleach and scrub brushes. Power wash the places.

Sabbatical sounds kinda nice. Maybe the sabbatical should be to Afghanistan.
I have always thought the abusers should be sent to churches in Antarctica. Sweeping the snow out. Not as actual pastors. A one way ticket is the least we could provide. But Afghanistan sounds like it has it's advantages too.

Lest we be too critical, the rector of the seminary may only have been the clueless one who didn't even know this stuff was happening under his nose. Or he was up to his eyeballs in it. I don't know that we know yet. So before we send him a ticket maybe we should wait. Cardinal McCarrick can pick his ticket up now and be on the next flight out, that is if the legal system is done with him.
