  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I haven't looked up the verses you mentioned, but the OT is man's best INSPIRED attempt at understanding God's relationship with and revelation to man. If inconsistencies do occur, that would be on account of man's understanding of God, which do not reflect God's actual qualities and essence.
Then which verses are reliable? The ones that say God is unchanging, unrepenting, and unlying? Or the ones that say God changes, repents, and lies?

BTW, Does Wicca posit One Supreme Being like the American Indian's Wankan Tanka--ie., Great Spirit--or does its beliefs only involve elemental powers in nature? :curious:
Wiccans worship nature, and posit two deities, a God and Goddess, who are representative of various aspects of nature (the Sun and Moon, the hunt and the harvest, fertility, etc).

Some Wiccans do believe in a single deity, from whom come the God and Goddess, akin to the Native Americans' Great Spirit or some Hindus' Brahman, but this is rare.

I don't think it is a matter of either or, but a matter of taking the Old Testament in its entirety. I personlly believe, however, that prayer Does make a difference.

Does Wicca believe in a form of prayer? I have studied a great deal about religion, but of Wicca I confess to being ignorant.

But how can God both lie and never lie?

Do you believe all prayers make a difference?

Nothing as formal as in the Abrahamic religions. Worship can be nothing more than contemplation and reflection on the natural world, while prayer is anything from inherited rituals to speaking aloud in your mind. While I was Wiccan, I preferred the latter.

According to the OT, God is quite capable of changing his mind, relenting and repenting, etc. How this fits into a God who "doesn't change" I don't know.

It is because you have not applied yourself to learning what these texts actually say. Things are not as they appear, applies here

It might be good for you to study Islam because you are mischaracterizing Allah. He is also called the Responder to Prayers, the Forgiver of Sins, the All Compassionate and the All Merciful, not to mention that He is believed to be the God of Abraham.
Jesus is the God of Abraham. Do Muslims believe that?

No. Muslims believe Jesus to be one of a line of prophets, second only to Muhammed. They consider the Christian inference of Jesus' divinity to be flawed, and the concept of the Trinity to be manifestly polytheistic.
