[FONT=&quot]We are marooned an a desert island and among our meager belongings is a worn out Bible. It is so worn out, in fact, that most of the New Testament is gone ...the pages are missing. Most of the Bible is intact ...I mean, we DO have the Old Testament, the 4 complete gospels and the entire book of Revelation. We surmise that there is more but we don't know what is missing. So we don't know WHAT we're missing! We have what we have and that's it.

Would we have enough information available to 'save' us for eternal life? And, what would we find missing from our island 'church' that we find in abundance now in our churches? I mean, many of today's churches are SO Pauline in culture that we would surely see some major differences with the absence of his epistles alone. Remember, Paul is gone. We have no idea who he is.

Would our belief systems be the same as now and, if not, how would they be different?

Would the Holy Spirit still provide us with the same gifts ...even though the reading literature concerning the gifts is not there?

Would we believe that the Law had been nailed to the cross?

Would we be ordaining women into the church?

Would we be contented with just ONE denomination or would we want to branch out and form others because of our differences in interpretation of the Old Testament, the 4 gospels and Revelation?

What else, do you think?

The library of Alexandria held far more books of the Bible than you currently have and when that library burned down much of it was lost. How do you even know that what you currently have is enough or even is not invalidated by subsequent lost books?

This is a good question... I'm sorry to see there aren't more responses.

I think it's pretty obvious that most Christianities would be very different.

Would they be different?
I look at what happened on Pitcan Island ( Bounty Mutineers) and take notice that they formed one single church/belief.

No point mentioning Pitcairn Island (note the spelling) if you're not going to explain to the rest of us what you're getting at. What happened and how does this relate to the thread?

Come on KC, you know exactly what he is on about. I think you raised this particular point on another forum site once.

They, from the Bible, all became 'Seventh-day Adventists' without knowing the denomination or anything like that.

So this is what happened. I wonder if the same can be said for the other denominations.

That "I" know what he's 'on about' isn't the point. He, not I, needs to make it clear to others on the forum.

You obviously missed the post/s where I chided JT for having lifted several of my threads from another source and never acknowledged this. It's tantamount to plagiarism even though I forgive him. This thread title AND the word for word contents of the OP IS mine.

The point being that the mutineers of The Bounty read the scriptures 'as is' without being under the influence of traditional Christianity. And, because they did, they were therefore not 'tainted' by the beliefs of traditional Christianity and so began keeping sacred the weekly 7th-day Sabbath ...that is, Friday sundown until Saturday sundown.

However as you know KC The mutineers were from an English religious background, and were mostly baptised CoE. They actually READ the book and started to actually understand it and followed the teachings. Thus Sabbath day, when you die you are asleep in the grave (Not hell or heaven) etc etc.
PS No E G White stuff either, just the bible and worked it out.

Hey KC it is you who keeps telling me how smart, clever and well read these people on this forum are. Do you now, questioned there ability to research such a simple historical fact?

Now You know how it relates to the thread, don't you.

The Mutineers started to read the Bible, actually Thought for themselves and then basically became "Seventh-Day Adventist" without the E G White writings. I find it very interesting, don't you?

Thanks. I am not sure if we really were stuck on an island with this tattered book to read and learn from, if we would break up into different splinters groups of belief.

Calm down kids...

Anyway, I think that whatever flavour of Christianity develops on the island will be quite different from what we have in the real world.
I mean, just look at what crops up when everyone has the same book, let alone one with parts missing!

Well i can agree that the Christianity on the Island would be different from the real world version. Maybe all the islanders would agree on topics like hell, state of the dead etc.
