Wow, I am having a satellite dish installed right now, and I'm very excited about all the channels I'll be getting. I've never had a dish (and not had cable since I was a kid), so I'm used to twisting the antenna around so I can get just a couple of networks. Now I'll have the history channel and TVLand and Discovery and A&E and Home and Garden -- wow!

Where I live, the dish is cheaper than cable. I was so surprised.

So now, the challenge is to watch the educational channels (History, CNN, Discovery) rather than feeding my brain with all the new possibilities of mental junk food.

So, what dish did you get, Directv or DISH Network? I have DISH and Sky Angel, Sky Angel is Christian channels, 20 of them, and 16 radio channels, this is via the DISH equipment but you need two dishes. Having Sky Angel along my DISH channels gives me the balance I need and desire. I think more people should balance their TV diet with more Christian TV.

I got DirectTV. I've heard that DISH network is good, too, but I got a good promotional deal from Direct.

Sky Angel sounds like a great thing. I agree that we need to "balance" our TV "diet" (or maybe cut out some things altogether, right?). I don't watch a lot of explicitly "Christian" TV, but now that I have all these channels, I am making an effort not to get caught up in reruns of sitcoms or other shows that I think are in questionable taste. There are many edifying things out there that are educational, informative, and entertaining, too. One just has to change the channel!
