Interesting that they still translated it as “all things”. So I guess I’m in good company with NET.

The meaning is still as translated by the NLT, 'And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ'.

Mark 7:21-22 (NIV) provides some insight: '

21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come – sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.​

You and I both know God is omnipotent and not impotent. However, from the time of sin in the Garden of Eden there have been consequences for sin. These will continue until the day of judgement.

I eagerly await the new heavens and the new earth.

I’m good with giving thanks to God for everything. I seem, however, to be in a minority.

Yes, there’s consequences for sin. I don’t think I’ve argued otherwise.

If God has decreed all things that come to pass, it’s easy to understand how we should give thanks in all things. We may not always understand these things, especially the tragic, but we can still be thankful even through tears and mourning. We know that God’s plan will bring Him glory.

My question is for those who don’t think that God decrees all that comes to pass. How do you give thanks to God in all things if He’s not in charge of all things?

I'd love to chime in, but "My question is for those who don’t think that God decrees all that comes to pass." To me there is "no chance" that God did not decree all things that come to pass. Hehe, get it? get it? "no chance"? snerksnerk....

By the way, RC Sproul wrote an excellent book: "Not A Chance (God, Science and the Revolt Against Reason)" And apparently there is a newer version, "Not A Chance (The Myth of Chance in Modern Science and Cosmology)

I love that I got to read the book, because what I have long known, but was unable to express well, he does for me. For example, I have wondered how in the world cosmologist can invent a new math to prove their thesis concerning particle physics, by using old math that the new math denies! (See? Already I said that wrong, lol.) Sproul is a master in logic and debate, and it shows. He basically spanks the modern scientific community who, per Google: "Despite claiming unbelief in God or any higher power that may have designed or created the world and all that is in it, modern scientists often write and speak of chance as some kind of being or force that can cause things to happen."

Yeah. The thing that some folks don’t seem to grasp, is that God not doing something is still Him doing something. God can act or not act in any situation at any time. Either way, He’s still making a decision on the outcome.
