I'm doing homework on some multi-function printers (print, scan & copy) and I like to know if there's anyone out here that owns one. I'm looking into either: Epson or HP. Which is best, and why?

Thanks!! :)

My Grandpa owns one. I can't remember exactly what model it is but it is a Lexmark. It's an excellent little piece of hardware! ;) I am thinking about replacing my Lexmark Z32 printer with a Lexmark All-in-One printer-fax-copier. They're pretty cheap at Walmart now. Around $80 for the cheapest one. I would just hook up this ancient scanner I have but like I said, it's ancient and very slow.

The only kind of printers that my family has ever used were Lexmark. Back in the earlier years, Lexmark seemed to have quite a few problems with their printers. But anymore, I think they've got all the kinks worked out of their printers. I think I recall hearing somewhere that Lexmark and Hewlett Packard printers are the exact same printers just with a different brand name. A former friend of mine told me that a few years back. Don't know if there's any truth to it or not though.

The good: They are usually cheaper than buying seperate components, and they save space.

The Bad: If one item breaks (the scanner maybe) you are stuck with a giant paper weight.

I buy separate components instead of all in one solutions.

That's why I'd make sure it had a good warranty on it. Preferably a 1 year warranty at the least.

I have an Epson CX6400 and absolutely love it. It's very easy to use. It even has a built in card reader and can print photos without you having to upload the pictures to your hard drive. Reasonably priced also.
How long have you been using it? I'm looking into Epson CX4600. Prolly the same like CX5400 or CX6400, but the price is a bit lower. I have Windows XP, was it hard to set it up? Sorry for the questions, but it goes to show to do my homework before I dive in.... ;)

I've had it for about 9 months now. Hubby gave it to me for Christmas. We have Windows XP also and the printer was extremely easy to set up. I had always used HPs and Lexmarks in the past but the quality of the Epson has them all beat. It does pay to do your homework and to ask several questions before investing in computers or peripherals. I've heard good things about the 4600 and 5400 as well.
