Adultery - Voluntary sexual relations between a married person and somebody other than his or her spouse.

This is mentioned many times in the bible as being very wrong. Many people I talk to link adultery with having sex before marriage. These are clearly two different things, as adultery requires at least one of the partaking to be married.

Can someone point me to a verse that says something concerning pre marital sex. Not Adultery..

This is open to interpretation but I believe it was Jacob in the Old Testament who had to work so many years before he could have sex with the woman he wanted to marry after gaining the dads consent.

Even then he was tricked and ended up marrying two wives.

Don't think Jesus mentioned anything specific that I can think of.

Are you looking for scripture in order to bolster witnessing to someone or are you trying to figure out if there is any way you can get away with this? Scripture has been posted in various places here so hopefully someone will come along soon and provide that. Sex after marriage doesn't make a marriage any more secure in this day and age.

I would like to say that Jacob (pretty sure it was Jacob not Isaac) was very much in love, and that seemed to be the important thing. Even after he was fooled and got the woman he didn't want he worked for a number of years afterwards to get the one he truly loved.

Sorry to answer a question with a questions but is Leviticus 18 where sexual immorality is defined? Because if it is then all the references of sexual immorality in the NT do not address consentual sex between an un-married man and an un-married woman. However, that does bring into play the defenition of marriage. Since there are some that say marriage occurs when a man and a woman have sex. I don't know. I'm kinda confused about the whole thing. Honestly, there are alot of dots to connect in order to come to the conclusion that sex before marriage between two un-married people of the opposite gender is a sin.

Sexual immorality shows up several times (27 hits) but isn't defined anywhere. Leviticus does have some clear cut 'do-nots', but nothing on premarital mumbo jumbo.

I don't know that I am necessarily trying to justify having sex before marriage, just trying to see if anyone has some new input, or if I missed something in the bible somewhere.

It seems that Saint Paul had a big problem with it(fornification), whereas in the Old Testament King David, who is mentioned more than anyone else as far as I can see throughout the Bible after his death had a few concubines which he cared about but didn't marry.

Considering God has no regard for rank I have no advice for this thread(scriptural based in anyway).
