My father has been addicted to alcohol for many, many years and there has been so much pain and destruction from this. He has confessed recently that he is ready to let it go. I just ask that these chains be broken for good - now and forever - in Jesus' name! Also, that the things that were eaten be restored and that the regrets and bad memories be replaced with good thoughts and positivity.

Hi,

Believe it or not I can see this serious problem from both your angles so lets start from your Dads angle.

Obviously it doesn't say in your post how long the addiction to alcohol has been, but it sounds serious, Ive worked with alcoholics and have been one myself but probably not for as long as him. I want you to remember he can become free from this if he really wants too, but it means, a definate detox, a strong will power, the Lord all the way, and an extreme amount of support from yourself and others. If you are all prepared to help and get the help then he will suceed. As you mentioned he is a long term drinker, so he is going to need hospital care for at least 10 days. This is the first step, get him to a doctor as his liver will be affected, he will have lack of vitamins in his body, they will in hospital provide medication to stop withdrawels for 3-5 days, the following days he will have vitamin injections, liver checks etc, until he is allowed home. The next part is hardest for him, which is staying away from drink, which is were you and friends will need to help. He will be weak but try and occupy his mind with other things like short walks, anything other than pubs or alcohol, even the smell can set him back off again. Keep him away from those who do drink when hes there or tell them not to get drink out. Make sure he eats good meals.

Lord I pray that all thoughts of drink will banish from this man, and you will protect, find help, and support all family and friends to help him. I pray that his will power will be strong and guidance will be there from you in every way. Amen

I quit 13 yrs ago, God brought me thru'. It only hurts for a minute. Now,as I think back there is nothing good that ever came from drinking.
Prayer was my answer, God was waiting to hear from me.
