• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Good Morning SOTK,

Thanks for the response.I agree on many of these points you have made.Unfortunately I have not had the time to really give the site a good going over.I didn't want you to think I was just posting and running. In short though I would say that to focus on sinful/habitual behavior rather than to embrace your faith in Christ would kind of make Christ's sacrifice to free us from that yoke kind of a moot point,
Just my opinion.

Speak with you soon
God Bless,
Larry

You got it! That sums up my problems with groups such as 'AA' and 'CR' nicely. These types of groups, although meaning well, do cause the person to focus on behaviors. Focusing on behaviors and identifying with such behaviors is not only wrong but will cause a self-fulfilling prophecy to come true. If you identify with sin, a sinner you will be. The fact of the matter is that we are Children of God! We are Saints! We have the "mind of Christ" and if we rest in Him, the Holy Spirit will bear righteous fruit. We need to recognize on a daily basis that our sinful flesh was nailed upon the Cross with Christ. The "old man" is dead and we are a new, righteous creation in Christ! As Paul says, "It is not I who sin but the sin which dwells in me (his flesh)". Paul recognized that sin was seperate from him. This is an important truth.

Well, gotta go. Looking forward to talking with you more!

Blessings,

SOTK

CELEBRATE RECOVERY is designed to and, if implemented properly, DOES just the oposite. It merges the basic principals of AA/NA into CHRISTIANITY with the PRIMARY EMPHASIS being on CHRISTIANITY.

There are so many CR's opening up everywhere...I would imagine, not all get the full grasp of that or are able to effectively merge the two with the Pri.focus being on the LORD.

I've got to tell you...the one I've been attending is doing just an awesome job of it. It just thrills me to my soul to know this is what (I hoped) was happening everywhere.

What's so funny, is this pastor has just started his CR and not many people have started attending. Ithink because it's in an higher-end location and IF people there are going to get help, they're not going to be real open about it. But he get's up and just goes at it as if the room were full even if theres just, me and his wife. GOTTA LOVE IT. There's usually about 6-10 and think, when people catch on...It's just going to BOOM and be such a blessing to so many.

I've been alcoholic too and tried to get out of it by going to doctors.. they gave me antabuse to take but nothing worked.. i was still taking alcohol... Only when I accepted Jesus Christ in my life, did it change.. nothing is greater than God.. NOTHING... not alcohol, not antabuse, not drugs but God and only HIM can change one's life and make it better if we only trust in him and let him take control!
