  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hellllllllo everyone!

So, I know Alberta is having an election in, I think the 22nd.

I read a conserv ative majority is expected/is a given..but I thought Ralph looked very weak in the debate (watched them on satellite)...

Anyone in Alberta [or elsewhere] seen any polls? What's the general feeling about the election?

I haven't seen a poll but I'd be surprised by anything less than a large majority government.

I think there has been a bit of a backlash in the press because they aren't getting many interesting stories thanks to the Tories quiet campaign strategy.

I wouldn't write off a surprise, especially if the PCs don't turn out the vote, but it looks like another 18 months of Klein followed by a leadership convention.

generally if people have the choice of keeping things the same, they will, so I think Klein's gonna end up winning. I haven't really decided yet if thats a good thing or not. I mean his government did manage to get AB out of debt, and I know Ralph Klein is against gay marriage, but there is just so much they neglected through out the last 10 years.

A poll in Calgary that was published Thursday showed:

PC - 51%
Liberal - 23%
Green - 10%
NDP - 7%
Alliance - 6%

This represents a 20% drop in popularity for Klein over the past year (it was 71% in the spring). Another surprise in the rising popularity of the Green Party, they also did suprisingly well in Calgary in the Federal Election (but didn't win a riding).
