  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I take it you are thinking of enlisting? Im not really in the Air Force yet, I just finished Field Training for AFROTC so I know a bit about what you can do as an officer. The advice I would give you is apply for a scholarship from ROTC and go that way, that is if you dont have a college degree yet. If you really are set on enlisting Im pretty sure you will easily get a job with computers.

As for keeping a Bible in Basic Training, Im pretty sure they will let you keep one. They let me keep one at Field Training. Know having the time to really read it is another question. The only time I had to read was on Sunday at Church, they let you go to Church. But Basic is pretty different, its longer and according to people at Field Training that were prior enlisted Basic Training is not as bad mentally as Field Training but it is harder physically.

If you have any questions just ask, Ill answer them the best I can.

I just finished enlisting and am leaving for basic in about a month. Yes your aloud to have a bible. And as long as you score ok on the asvabs you should be able to get a job in computers or electronics I personally went for mechanical but was offered a coupple computer jobs so it's not that hard to get.

Well I am thinking of enlisting because I am to a point of not passing my classes, I work in a job 40 hours aweek and I either need to quite my job and work only 24 hours a week to focus on school or give up school altogether. The reason I am interested in the Air Force is because I want to get out of my parents house and would like the idea of getting job training that I can count as college credits too. I have around 50 college credits that I plan to use to gain rank in the Air Force.

Greetings in Jesus' Name,

I am currently an Air Force Chaplain Candidate, LT, and have been in for over 9 years. I started off enlisted and progressed from 3-level > 5-level > 7-level training in structures Civil Engineering Career Field. I know the enlisted force structure well and training requirements. Deployed to Macedonia, GWOT, OEF, ONW. Then, later saw the light and calling to be a chaplain. God Bless you and hope this is God's will for your life. If you do not mind being deployed in an AEF (Air Expeditionary Force) rotation, the Air Force will be a very meaningful life for you.

I will try to come back often to answer questions that you may have.

All The Best,

Holyroller125

Idk about the Air Force but we were allowed religious material at Marine boot camp, we would have devotions where we had a few minutes to pray or read the Bible before hitting the rack. And of course we could go to Church, the few hours out of 7 days where we weren't yelled at!!!!!!!!!

You should be able to get a guide to USAF military basic training. BMT You are probably aware that every enlisted person processing for the military takes the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) the Military Entrance and Processing Station (MEPS) produces a Raw score that is then converted for each branch of military service. The Air Force scores are called MAGE scores M= Mechanical A= Administration G=General and E=Electronics along with a overall score QT Each carrier field requires a minimum score in one of these areas. Some may require a minimum score in two areas. Along with the testing is the physical requirements done at the MEPS station. The SF 88 Report of Medical Examination records the following information P U L H E S X . You are given a number between 1-4 and the Air Force is the only service to do the X factor which is your ability to lift. That will have a Letter example N-100 lbs. Once you are qualified you will be shown what opportunities exist and the Air Force Linco will job bank you based on your qualifications and what the needs of the Air Force are.
I will also mention that color vision and depth perception are a part of this process along with other medical and personal history. You might want a medical tech job for instance AFSC 4N0X1. The MAGE score required is a G50 for example. You may qualify but there may not be any med tech slots open at the time. The recruiter may try to urge you to enlist "open General" which would mean that while you are at Lackland AFB (BMT) in about week 5 you will get another job counselling and at that time go into a career field that is open in the "general G" area. Some of those options are services, security forces, medical, Got the picture? So you might want to be a med tech and end up a cop. That is why I highly urge you to enlist into a guaranteed job only. You might have to wait a long time for that job and the recruiter might be a little frustrated with you but in the long run it is worth it. If that does not work for you then do a back door option and enlist into the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve. They are part time, one weekend a month, you get all of the exact same training as you would in the regular Air Force but the great part of it is that the ANG and USAFR deal in guaranteed jobs only. Then after you have completed all of your training and upgrade training 1-3 years down the road if you decide you want to go full time in the Air Force you have a couple options available. 1. Talk to a Air Force recruiter and go full time through what is called the "res res" program (only open for folks in the ANG and USAFR) to go full time regular Air Force.
Option #2 take a voluntary recall to active duty as a Air Guard member or Air Force Reserve member.
Want more info PM me and I will be happy to chat with you.... James

This thread is ancient but it was the first Air Force thread I found. I leave for basic in June. I couldn't be more excited. While I was skimming through the thread I read that I can have a Bible at Basic. I'll take mine cause God knows I'll need it. It's encouraging to know that I can go to church as well. Does anyone know if you have to get up earlier to go to church? I know that they let you sleep in 'til 5:30 on Sundays but how do you go to church while in basic? How could you fit that in?

I don't see how EVERYone would go to church. Not everyone wants to go to church or feels comfortable with going to church. And these days the U.S. Government would be the last thing on earth to bring everyone to any kind of church. Lots and lots and lots of lawsuits. I'll ask my recruiter I guess. Thanks though. ;)

Hello,

I will go by my experience in the Army.

Bibles are readily available and can be read during "Soldier's Time". Which is basically the hour before lights out provided your platoon hasn't done anything to infuriate the drill sergeants.

Religious services are run Sundays and all can attend the service of their choosing provided your not on FTX or a previously planned drill or exercise.

Honestly? You should be perfectly fine. Air Force basic training is a walk in the park.
