  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thank you Bombila for that fascinating article it was both interesting and informative. You IMHO have added to the discussion re:polar bears & GW crisis;(although I believe it to be solar caused and only 2.5 % AGW.) It is the beautiful Eskimo people that are in jeopardy besides the polar bear.

I am glad the article was up to date although there are better write ups now of said situation.

Ice thickness is key one can only hope new ice and baby ice will grow in thickness each year from now as TSI declines.

Good luck to you and yours, everafter.

Sorry, but it's not happening any time soon. The arctic has warmed much, much more than the global average. And now that it's largely melted, it's going to have a very, very hard time recovering, even if temperatures drop back down, due to the higher absorption of the dark sea vs. reflective ice.

Pay attention this winter as the ice does in fact drop back down as many predict. You will see with your own eyes the large crow waiting for your dinner table. Keep your eyes peeled now.

I have heard anecdotal evidence from those there on the sceen navigating the ice, that it is already growing. The satellite data is tainted because of water on top of reflective ice. It was false data.I read the report already.

Um, the arctic ice grows back every winter. The question is whether or not it will grow back more than the previous year. And that seems unlikely.

Chalnoth is right, Greatcloud. Most concerning in the Arctic is the replacement of thick, ancient ice cover with weak, thin new ice.

My posting that article (glad you liked it) and commenting thereon in no way is meant to support your peculiar devotion to claiming climate change isn't happening or, if it is, has little to do with human activity.

It was to point to some of the fallout peoples of the Arctic are experiencing, and their responses to it, and to express my opinion (in line with much Inuit opinion) that people should be careful about picking a photogenic wild animal (that most will never encounter outside a zoo) and running a campaign based on poorly comprehended science and minimal data about that animal.

In fact, animals who may be more in danger than the Polar bear are the Caribou, not just because of the icing of lichens, their winter forage, by freezing rain falling instead of snow, but because they are finding the protein rich early spring plant growth finished before their migrations reach them. Also small mammals like Lemmings and Voles, upon which Arctic Fox and others depend, are drastically affected by freezing rain, which makes burrowing under snow difficult.
