I wouldn't mind if my (hypothetical) girlfriend was older than me. Suppose we got married - guys usually die at a younger age anyway, so I figure if my mate is slightly older than me, our chances of dying around the same time are increased.

I too never thought I would date a younger man, but my boyfriend is 11 months younger than me and it's never been a problem. His mom is 4 or 5 years older than his dad, so he always thought about dating/marrying an older woman. He loves it.

I've never dated anyone younger than me (unless you count the guy I kind of dated in high school who is exactly 5 days younger), but I don't think I'd be opposed anymore. Like a previous poster, I would have minded a few years ago when the age /maturity gap seemed so much greater. Now it's really more dependent on the person, his personality, his experiences, and his maturity level.

I notice that a lot of guys say they wouldn't mind dating an older woman--I think there must be some ancient mystique there...lol.

I guess for girls it's okay to date 10 years up, 4 years down. Those aren't set in stone. It really depends on the people. In the long run, age won't matter so much, right?

I'm sorry you went through that. That's not a relationship. Don't let a bad experience discourage you from trying again if you meet a wonderful girl who is older than you. It sounds like that other girl just had her own issues. I'm the older one in my relationship by about 6 months, and I don't throw my weight around. That's just rediculous. In fact, apart from when birthdays come around, we don't even think about the age difference.

Although my Grandma did joke that I have a 'toyboy' for half a year....

The age range I would accept is as low as 18 and as high as 35. I would prefer that my potential mate would be in her mid 20's like 25 or so for maturity. However if she was older than me and in her 30's it wouldn't really bother me either.

When I was dating, I went out with one person who was a year younger than me, and never again.

Why?

I have a brother a year younger than me and it was like kissing my brother.

For some people, it works. My dad is 2 years younger than my mom, and they get along great.

I also have a girlfriend whose husband is 20 years older than her, and they have 6 children together, and said they wouldn't have it any other way. There are some generational challenges because of the age being so far apart, but they have a very happy marriage and love each other very much.

But we're both Juniors.

When we first met, I confess it was a bit intimidating to me - she's beautiful and older and more experienced with relationships, I felt a bit "outclassed." But all that quickly disappeared. I doubt most who know us are aware of the age difference - or care.
