  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well the ideal for me... would be April 2005 and September 2006... But that is because I will be marrying then, and i found my bf then (or more to the point, we decided to start a relationship then)...

As for ideal for anyone, there isn't one... My cousin got married at 16, and a family friend at 40. They both are happy, and both have a good marriage...

I always wanted to get married when I was 23. Isn't happening. I'll be 24 this December. I am engaged, but my original wedding plans had to be postponed due to his developing lupus and having to go home for treatment. This really crushed his spiritual life as well, and I'm sending him to a bible school/retreat type center for spiritual renewal. To me that is more important than getting married when I wished to.

There is no ideal age limit for me dating. I started to date my girlfriend when I was 16 and she was 15. The ideal age for me to get married would be around 24 or 25. By then I will be out of college and should have a steady enough job to support us.

I just wonder if you expect to be dating the same person by that time. And if you say yes, I'd like to see you when you're 24 or 25 and see what actually happened.

If I was to go back to the point where i wasn't engaged, or even in a relationship of any kind with him, i wouldn't have gone so fast. Being married for me used to be a goal, but now with it fast approaching, it's being seen in it's full light... It's not such a "eagerly desired" thing in itself anymore, I can't wait to wake to him every morning, but that's not all there is to marriage... and putting an age limit on it, well it focuses on it, and forgets the stages of development before you get there...

Yeah, I don't think getting married in college is really feasibly because a couple probably wouldn't be financially sound yet. I think the ideal age would be 23...out of college, not too young, not too old...

Well there is definately no standard. My mother got married when she was 16. She was the oldest girl out of a family of 9 children. She raised the two youngest boys pretty much. And by the time they were older it was time to start raising the two oldest boys kids (she was also probably the most stable in the family, hence raising everyone elses kids). She also did most of the housework, her mother was far from being a natural housewife. She was completely mature enough at age 16, but that doesnt happen too often anymore I dont think, but it could of course. Everyone is ready at different ages, but I think that a good average would be dating after 17, and married after 21.

Oh, and my parents are still together going on 31 years.

Well, they very well still oculd be together when that time comes around.
But my question is, will they be able to wait that long before getting married. I know that me and my bf want to wait until we are bothaout of school and have jobs, but that is in about 2 years, not 7!! Well, good luck.
