No matter what he says - listen to your gut!! Pedofiles are totally seductive and charasmatic. What life interests would someone that there is so much age difference share that would create a desire to spend so much time with your daughter. Sounds fishy from here. God Speed.

Once the person is legally an adult (18 in Canada and the USA), the other person isn't classified as a pedophile. I'm not saying it's all ok once the person is 18, but that pedophilia isn't the term that would be used.

I use the term Pedophile loosely subjectifying the meaning below:


Pedo - from A Greek origin meaning child
Philia - used from a Greek origin meaning pathology of - or insinuating an abnormal liking for.

Regardless of the legal logistics involved (or not), the behavior of a man 55 who is showing an intense interest in an 18 year old is exhibiting Pedophilic tendencies.

Dude I am in just about the same boat that YOU are in......the young lady that I have started haveing very deep emotions and concerns for is not going to turn 20 untill Nov. I will be 28 in Dec. We just need to pray for eachother.

In some places in Arkansas that may not be impossible - I got a letter six months ago or so from a young lady of 20 who was looking for a husband. Her next older sisters (23, 25) had married men of about 35 and the other late 40's, early 50's. When I looked up the region there is literally almost _no-one_ population-wise in the area. They're making the choice between marrying non-traditionally and not getting married at all.

(note that I'm not endorsing this, it's just something I know about - that takes some extraordinary people)

I'm assuming you're not telling me to put my teeth back in? (j/k). I think she just saw my profile on the net. The challenge is that I'm not a cradle robber even though I am well heeled. 36 is generally too old for the taste even of people in their 20s anyway, and I'm a unique enough person that local opportunities are extremely limited. :^)

(ps - I have a friend who jokes that he wants to marry a rich 80 year old with an oxygen hose so he can step on it...)

The older gent met my daughter at a week-long medieval camp about a year and a half ago. They've spent time together (within sight of one another) at three very-public camp-outs. Yeah, I know, public or not, camps afford intimate time together. I'll have to trust my daughter's word when she says they've not been the least bit physically intimate. I guess all I've got is prayer, and communication with my daughter. (Hah! "All" I've got. Prayer's a powerful tool!)
