Afterschool specials

Do you all remember those Afterschool Specials that when you got home, you watched that was about important topics.
Like teen pregnancy, drugs, child abuse, etc.
I remember watching those shows on ABC!
As a kid!

I remember them. I did enjoy them, but I thought they were to far in between each show. Wish they were on more often.

Oh yes..... All kids should have a chance to see those specials..... It's funny to see how stiff the acting was then compared to now....

Does anyone remember the "Frog Girl" story -- where the girl wouldn't dissect a frog because it was against her personal beliefs? I don't remember if that was an "Afterschool Special", or if that was one of the weekend (Saturday) dramas.

I remember "time for timer" with the "Hanker for a hunk of cheese!" and those popsicles he made from the ice cube trays and toothpicks.

Sure do. I believe I watched them when I was in trouble though,sent to my room.

Oh yes..... All kids should have a chance to see those specials..... It's funny to see how stiff the acting was then compared to now....

I think they are available on DVD now.
I especially love those ABC Afterschool specials as a kid!

Yes we use to rush right home and watch them ! I enjoyed them so much ! Id love to know how to get some on DVD for my daughter who is 11

I remember the "I get a hankerin' for a hunka cheese!" And yea, the specials were to me what MTV is to the teens now. WOW, those were the days, hu?

I saw the afterschool specials DVD at Walmart the other day. I didn't remember any except for one.

I loved the ABC Weekend Specials as well. They came on at the end of the Saturday morning cartoons. There were a couplke about Miss Switch, a witch who was a schoolteacher I think, and a couple live-action films based on Little Lulu cartoons. Now they hardly show cartoons on Saturday at all!

In England Rhubarb and Custard were on as I came in (cartoon)

I remember them being on TV, but the other channel had cartoons - much more fun, IMO

They have them all over ebay WOW those specials were so good ! I just ordered a set for my daughter to watch !

I remember the "Say NO to Drugs" one with Helen Hunt. She jumpd out of a two story window because she was on angel dust/PCP. I was just 8 so I wasn't very familiar with drugs or even what they were. So I remember saying to myself "Ok.. so how would you even get dust from an angel"

Conjunction Junction was part of the School House Rock commercial thingys. My favorite was Interplanet Janet. You know "Interplanet Janet..she's a galaxy girl". My kids have the DVD's. Everytime we watch them I get all these elementary school flashbacks. NOT GOOD.

I remember coming home, taking off my shoes, and watching those specials.
Too bad that we don't have them these days.
Boy times have really changed!

Sometimes in the end of the shows, they gave like a hotline number to call for help. I remember those vividly.

I remember those afterschool specials. I used to watch them all the time, they were great! I will have to check out ebay and see about getting some, I would love for my kids to get to see them too!
