• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, here I am again. I have been away for a while. I started having severe episodes of my BPD. And I have been going through really bad depression for the last month. I was put in the hospital last month. And went to an intensive DBT course (partial hospitalization) every day. Until my insurance company cut me off because they didn't think it was serious enough for me to be in there so I was discharged early and didn't complete the program.

I have been having a really crappy couple of months which is why I went away. I just thought I would let everyone know what was going on with me.

My Dx of BPD was reconfirmed. Along with PTSD. My new therapist is wanting to give me an antidepressant for the depression and the anxiety (Wellbutrin), but as of right now I am declining to do that.

I am going to start another DBT program that is in the evenings this week.

Hopefully things will be getting better soon. Even though it really doesn't seem like it will... I would appreciate your prayers. Very much...

:sigh:

Don't go with Wellbutrin. I've had a couple friends on it, HORRIBLE side effects. Not every for anyone suicidal, if you were.

Lexapro works wonders with me. Prozac was okay, as was Zoloft. Celexa is really good too.
I am sorry things are so hard. I can understand all that.

What kind of side affects did they get? I heard that Wellbutrin was one of the ones with the least side affects?

Hey Erin...

Glad you updated us! I too have been away for awhile. Things are going better now, thankfully. I think due to some changes in my circumstances (got a new job, boyfriend and I broke up). Is there anything going on that could be triggering your bpd? (Such as stressful work environment?)
Hmmm....Wellbutrin. I know that it works wonders for a lot of people. But if you have anxiety, I wouldn't recommend it. It made me very anxious and slightly obsessive. I wanted to jump out of my skin. Not a nice feeling.
Keep on keeping on and I will pray for you!

Hi Jessica. Thank you for the advice.

The triggers have been a bunch of things really: Stress at work, with family, at home, and social life. I don't have any friends to talk to. And me and my husband have been having a really rough time.

But i think things are getting a little better. I have not freaked out or exploded in like a week now.

Thank you for your prayers. And I am glad that things are going better for you too.

Is your therapist a psychiatrist? Most psychiatrists don't do therapy, but just prescribe meds. A good therapist will not recommend a med, unless he/she is a psychiatrist.

If you have a therapist who recommends meds, then you should not ignore that. I have been on Wellbutrin and it did not have very bad side effects. Talk to the psychiatrist about it if you are concerned.

Hugs,
Trish

Thanks Trish. Well it was actually my psychiatrist in the hospital who reccomended Wellbutrin, but my therapist (Who is only a psychologist) said that if she recommended it then it would probably be a good idea. I don't know though. I am feeling a little better and I really don't want to be on meds.

What are your reasons for not wanting to be on meds, if I may ask? I am on meds, plus I work in a psychiatric hospital with all types of patients.

For my understanding, meds help with brain chemistry the way insulin helps a diabetic with blood sugar levels. It is not your fault your brain is not producing the right chemicals at this time, and it is not a life sentence to go on meds. They help with symptom management in psychiatric patients.

Just wanted to pipe in on the meds. My BPD daughter has been on Wellbutrin and Zoloft with minimal results. They do have fewer side effects, but she seems to be doing much better on Effexor. It also has few if any, side effects. She is also on Abilify and cannot, I repeat cannot go without Abilify. Abilify is a mood stablizer that works wonders for her, although is responsible for weightgain. She has tried to wean off of Abilify but when she tried, she began to act out irrationaly and become suicidal.
