  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just wanted some opinions on this. We say that He will "come again in glory to judge the living and the dead".... The dead? I had always thought that the dead had already moved on to heaven or hell. Does that mean the people who have died haven't really been judged yet? Or is it maybe just referring to people who are already lost? Any thoughts would be appreciated. God Bless.

The Bible indicates two resurrections. The first is unto the righteous in Christ. The second will follow after the thousand year physical reign of Christ where satan will be released again for one last rebellion that will happen within the nations of those that are left of the people remaining on earth after armageddon. I think it here that the sheep and the goats are seperated.
The things that happen in eternity cannot be put upon a time line, as I understand, because the scripture also says that to be "absent from the body is to present with the Lord". Some believe this is to be in the bosom of Abraham, awaitng the first resurrection, by reason of the parable of the beggar and the rich man. I'm sure someone else here can clarify that issue better than myself, as it does have merit, in my opinion, to the truth.

Revelation 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

2 Corinthians 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight):
8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham‘s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

The first resurrection will be a judgment of the works of Christians discussed by Paul in his letterto the Corinthian Church:

1 Corinthians 312 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

The judgment of the unrighteous will also be an accounting, but one of thoroughness showing how they had rejected the Gospel. Knowing the exact timeline is difficult, as eternity is something I barely can imagine, much less explain very well; but there does seem to be two different periods of judgment, and matching all the events mentioned in scripture about judgment to the proper resurrection may be more than I know how to do perfectly. However, what I have shared is to the best of my current understanding. Others may know better and can teach me as I'm ready to learn.

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

2 Thessalonians 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Hi there!

He will judge the living and the dead and each will receive their just reward.

When a person dies, the spirit, the breath of life returns to God who gave it; the physical body dies and deteriorates; the soul is immediately either in the presence of God or in "she'ol"... hell. This "hell" is a time of torment.

The righteous will be judged and rewarded according to their works. For most, it will be a glorious crown to place at the feet of Jesus.

For the "dead in Christ", there will be the White Throne judgment.... where the unbelievers are judged and eventually cast into the lake of fire along with "hell", the false prophet, the anti-Christ, and satan and his followers.

Need references?

He will judge the living and the dead and each will receive their just reward.

2 Peter 2:9, then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptaions and reserves the unjust under punishment for the day of Judegement.

Revelation 22:12, Jesus says, "behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

i can quote other scriptures but it seems to me that there is only one judgement and that judgement is at the end of time. and in revelation 22 it shows that no one has yet to recieve there reward.

When a person dies, the spirit, the breath of life returns to God who gave it; the physical body dies and deteriorates; the soul is immediately either in the presence of God or in "she'ol"... hell. This "hell" is a time of torment.

you are talking about Eccl 12:7 i;m sure. which says " then shall dust return to earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." and this agrees with Genesis record of man's creation. showing the dust and the breath of God. but notice in Genesis 2:7 that the combination of dust and breath MAKE a soul. for it says "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Dust + breath of God(spirit) = living soul. so basically what God gave, if compared between Eccl. 12 and Genesis 2 is breath or spirit.

and sheol translated from Greek means "grave" not hell. no where do you find a translation saying hell. when you die you are simply in the grave.

we see the same comparison of Genesis and eccl. in Psalms 146:4 which says, "His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth, in that very day his thoughts perish."

the breath goes to God and the body goes to the dirt, there is no mention of souls. i beleive there is much more proof for the theory of "Soul Sleep", that is that we simply remain in the ground until the second coming.

think about it says the dead in Christ shall rise first and meet him in the air. why would we be in heaven and then God makes us come back to earth and climb back in our bodies just so that christ can raise us up again. plus many places death is referred to as sleep, exp. Jesus said Lazarus was sleeping, david referrs to death as the final sleep many times. in revelation it says the saint were put to rest for a while longer.

and as far as heaven or hell goes, eccl 9:5 says that the dead know nothing. if you are in hell, wouldn't you know you are burning, if you where in heaven wouldn't you know complete joy, and bliss.

with logic and simple comparison of scripture the picture of death and the judgement there is far more support for the fact that when we die we simply remain in the grave until Christ return, where we shall receive our reward Rev22:12
