• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

When I was younger I had nitemares all the time, the same ones because of what happened to me when I was little and I'd wake up in the middle of the nite terrified to go back to sleep because I didn't want to visualize it again... just like you said... at least I was able to go to sleep in the first place... but the only thing I could do is feel safe in my blankets and watch the same movie that distracted me from my fears over and over til I eventually fell asleep...

Now if I get scared I sleep with holding my bible close to me and I had a pillow case where I wrote these verses on it about sleeping and it really helped me, maybe not everyone...
Psalm 3:5 I sleep and wake up refreshed because you, Lord, protect me.
Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makes me dwell in safety.

I do know how that feels when you don't want to close your eyes... been there!
