i just got their first three: "Aerosmith", "Get Your Wings", and "Toys In The Attic". i had to jump from a like 85 degree hot tub into a 60 degree pool for it, but it was SO worthit, i havent listened to anything else on my Mp3 player since i got them, but i digress.

Aerosmith, go.

It's hard to really pick out a favourite.

I take the odd side of the spectrum because I prefer the Permanent Vacation and on albums rather than the older stuff. Not saying they don't have some good older songs, but PV, Pump, Get A Grip, and Nine Lives are certainly my favs.

How in the world are they going to replace Steven Tyler? Anyone else think this is crazy?
They aren't. He's back. I just hope they can get situated around enough to do this new album and do a good tour.

My own dividing line for Aerosmith stops dead at Rocks (one of the era's great, GREAT hard rock albums - a hard plateau to top, and they never did). Their ascendancy was concurrent with Kiss' - in fact they pretty much were both analog and antidote to them......Kiss being wildly/widely popular but quickly losing what little cachet they had with hardcore music fans and musicians via their overt cartoonishness and prefab qualities, whereas Aerosmith were a 'real', Stones-flavoured band (only heavier and more groove-driven) who relied on music and attitude rather than gimmickry. Not only could their singer sing, and their guitar players play guitar, but their songs took a lot longer to wear out their welcome. Which isn't to say that the first 3 or 4 Kiss albums, before they became swallowed up by their own marketing plan, didn't have their crude charms as well.

It's interesting because last month, Tyler was at a Perry show and announced he wasn't leaving. Now it's just all over the place and apparently Tyler is working on some solo project. Word is that Paul Rogers wants to be asked to try out as well. That made me facepalm seeing as the Queen + Paul Rogers thing was complete fail.
