  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

White, I already have earlier in the thread.

One of the groups that was burning HarryPotter books (might be one of the most recent incidents in the news, Its been awhile since I looked up HarryPotter burnings, but it wasn't too long ago), also burns any non KJV bibles because they believe they were made by satan to confuse christians. These are not old beat up bibles, but new pretty good condition ones.

So it does appear that in the case of book burning, a slippery slope is a possibility. If you start burning books, where do you stop?

It doesn't matter where it stops-all that matters is what they're doing and why. Does it line up with the word of God-that is the one thing that should concern a Christian.

I will say that a lot of translations of the Bible are extremely sloppy. They're bad renderings that really change the way you look at it. Sometimes the opinion of the person is imprinted. (Yes, individual people take the liberty of paraphrasing the Bible and call that a translation where I doubt they even looked at the Greek or Hebrew, given the terrible inaccuracy.)

The NIV is one of the better ones, but there are quite a few dubious renderings in that one as well. I do use it, but more sparingly these days. The KJV really is the best. But a lot of people struggle with it because the language has changed and it can behoove one to read some of the verses and make heads or tails of what it is talking about.

The Greek is actually easier, heehee!

I don't have the heart to part with any of my beat up Bibles. The more beat up they are, the more I like them. The more notes they have scrawled in them, the more familiar the Bible is, the more I hate to part with it.

Here's the site with the article describing the Bible burning.

We human beings are amazing creatures. We seem to have an inner, overwhelming need to destroy anything and everything not in agreement with our current beliefs. It's like we strive to make the world into our image of it.
