Seth, I'm really sorry to hear that, please never shoot yourself. I don't think I'd have a gun around as a temptation because life can be tough and why have to deal with that as an option. As tough as it can be you will have good days and maybe as time goes on these things will get better. Keep researching into the subject, and try to stay as positive as you can, God bless.

Have you ever tried going to a behaviorist. I think what they would do is to look at the trigger effects and try to shut them down before you have an episode. Is it constant or does it only happen at certain times. keep a journal and every time you have an episode (if they're episodic) write down in great detail everything that was happening leading up to the eppisode and how you felt at each moment. Look for patterns and if there are any you might have found your triggers. Whatever the case though you need to find help, Proffessional help. Please don't do anything drastic. Call a help line when you get those feelings. I will also pray for you. Peace and love to you in Christ Jesus.

anybody have any advice BESIDES praying to help with s/ing, depression, and PTSD related things (sleep problems, flashbacks, night terrors, etc). Been having alot of problems with all that lately.

hi seth i'm sorry you are struggling with all of these things. i will pray for you

... the bible and therepy the methods that deal with depression and other problems are pretty much the same. fallowing a schedule and living daily balance. this is eating healthily on schedule... and sleeping (even if you just lay in bed) on schedule... dwelling on good and healthy things, spiritual health, relationship balance... etc....

you pick one or two things to practice working on. then you just keep adding life skills to your personalized list of needs. it's never ending and daily. all of us have a list of things we need to do to care for ourselves. ... somethings you can control. others you just learn to manage through.

this is where talking to God and fellowship are great. to God we can complaine and ask for healling from... we at first may even be mad at God or have difficulty hearing Him. but through fellowship and God's love, things start to happen within us... if we want God to make Himself real to us, He will.

fellowship is what we do as brothers and sisters... trying to grow together. carrying eachother in prayer and being here. meeting as family to search out God and find answers together.

me again. i read all your posts and it just really hit me in my heart. i'm mentally ill. i too have had these issues. i'll tell you more in private if you want to know. i just want you to know that no one has ever reached inside my hurts and memories like Christ. i believe God is at work in you. He pulls toward himself... calling us to be healled. you have so much to gain in sticking it all out to see if God is real. you are not alone. i know you feel alone. you have had people hurt you and leave you without things you need. but now you are a young man. you are learning how to get away from people like that. and eventually you will find people in your life that do build you up instead of tear you down.
right now you have us. we want to be the people that help build you up.

I have PTSD too and have for about 10 years now. I wont ever get over my ordeal and have learnt to just except it. Well.. kinda.. its not easy to live with hey. Anyway my advice is to just live as happily as you can. So do whatever it is that makes you really happy and just try to enjoy what you can. When things come up just ride it out and wait for the next glimps of happiness. Up and down my rollercoaster goes which is scary, but if I just go with it, the rollercoaster is actually fun sometimes because I know its just a ride in the end.

So enjoy what you can when you can and just live for fun because it will keep you happier and will relax you more. You might even forget the past for awhile too.

My PTSD started when I was three, and things just got worse. My coping skills weren't all that great. Depression, definitely.

Here's what helped me - Christian recovery groups. If you are interested, most large churches have them or can direct you to one. They are definitely based on Scripture, and if a person doesn't want to speak - ever - he doesn't have to.

Another great help to me - Christian recovery books, like Springle's "Rapha's 12 Step...."

Please let me know if you want more details, book titles, etc.. The Lord has changed me so much that I now lead recovery groups myself. He can change anyone that profoundly - I've seen it countless times.

I'm not going to do the whole church thing and I doubt the church would supply an interpreter anyway or pay for it.

I know I probably sound really close minded to some ideas but thats because sometimes when you get bashed by certain groups of people enough you dont really want to put yourself in a position where its gonna happen again.

A Christian recovery group is not a church service, they just often meet in a church building in a Sunday School room or somewhere, when there are no services going on. I imagine they would allow you to bring an interpreter, as long as they followed the same rules of confidentiality. Many group members will not attend a regular church service, in their stage of recovery. In any case, not trying to urge you into something you would be uncomfortable with - just wanted to share what worked for me.

I'd echo those that suggest seeing a counselor. They're trained to help you deal with these sorts of things, and if one doesn't work for you, you can see if another's style and personality help more. If money is an issue, many of them are willing to work with you and tailor their fees to what you can afford. Why do you think you've been reluctant to talk to anyone about what bothers you?

Instead of cutting, clutch ice. Weird but it actually works. Kinda' messy but easier to explain water on the carpet than blood stains on a shirt, right?

So far as night terrors go? I always keep a coupla' "good friend" books near the bed so that I can switch straight from the fear into a private kinda' soothing. Also, since they're books which are really part of my identity they help to dilute the Other parts of my "identity".

For nightmares I learned a long time ago to attach other imagery to the negative stuff that flashes onto the back of my eyelids. For example: Because I was raped on a beach I learned all of the constellations visible at that hour along the Atlantic coastline. It sounds weird too, right? But, the thing is, my brain had new things to associate the imagery with so I could look up and be diverted into some crazy Orion deal rather than having the boogey man appear.

And, lastly, this might sound really dreadful, but remember that we don't do things that do nothing for us. The thrill or the fear or the questions... Something, sometimes seduces you down the trail of memory. Be careful.

I never struggled with SI. But PTSD and depression is somethign I can relate to.
Music and books kept me distracted a lot of the time.
I still have issues.

Is it possible for you talk to a psychologist, some people seem to benefit, maybe if one didn't help you could try another one, just a thought. I think I experience the PTSD after I nearly experienced a car accident....I prayed for a long time, but can never force myself to drive without having some kind of nervous breakdown.....I can tell you to pray...however, I had someone else pray for me....and to tell you the truth I doubted that it was going to work, because I've been praying for myself for a while already....but my advisor prayed for me, and I felt the Holy Spirit.....and then I drove her home without fear...amazing huh?....no more nervous breakdowns....it does make a difference to have others pray for you sometimes....

Hi Seth, that's true it does take money to move out but you seem to have a pretty level head, you'll know when the right time is for you. What would you like to pursue as far as a career? I guess that answers my question about posting in the Christian section but at least you can visit any forum, maybe someone will hit a chord with you and be helpful. Well, post anything, anytime here Seth, we all would loved to get to know you better! From what I take it Seth, where you born with a hearing problem and is modern science able to help your particular case. I thought I saw on TV a girl being able to hear for the first time in her life. I want to say from some sort of implant but can't remember. So, I don't know how far the medical field has come along in helping hearing problems. I have a brother who in his 30's who has gradually lost his eyesite and now is legally blind, unfortunately the medical field hasn't been able to reach the point of helping his particular condition but he has adapted and is married with his 5th child on the way and runs a music studio, an uncle with the same problem completely did the opposite by ruining his family with drugs and self-pity, were hoping he will snap out of it, there's signs of hope but the ball is in his court to make some changes or continue the same path that leads to nowhere but jail.
