  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have you ever come to a point in your life when you realized that things just are not working out the way you planned? I have come to that very point. I finally started to accept that with the exception of Crystal every other event that happens in my life is never going to go in my favor. now I know this really sounds like little kid whining over a few tough breaks but let me break this down. Everything from the smallest things to the biggest things never seem to bounce in my favor but into the favor of someone else. Let me give examples just from the last 24 hours

- Monday evenings I have a class that my teacher will absolutly accept no late work and will not offer much help. well on the homework I couldnt figure out how to do it so I have to turn in the work half done to try and get some credit. A friend of mine didnt even do the assignment and the instructor lets him turn it in 5 days late (friday). This is after I asked the instructor to please give me an extra DAY to figure out how to do the assignment and after I went to class 2 hours early to try and figure it out.

- EVERY and I mean EVERY sports team, political candidate, or anything that involves a competition that I would choose sides on will automatically lose and lose heartbreakingly if I pick them. I am the kiss of death when it comes to anything like that. so if your betting on a horse race find out who im betting on and then throw all your money on the other horse.. I picked Miami to beat UNC just to test the theory last weekend... UNC won by a field goal, I also picked Kerry (be glad I picked Kerry) and Danial Mongiardo to win there respective races. Despite winning most the exit polls and being ahead in the polls leading up to the election Kerry loses Ohio and the election. Mongiardo makes a miracle run but comes up 2 percent short of a huge upset.

- I got up a few minutes ago to print out my paper due tomorrow morning for english and realized that a virus had miraclously taken over my computer in the past hour and successfully ruined my paper and everything else on my laptop.. then when i sit down to finally rewrite my paper my keyboard breaks and I have to fix that..

- stepped in cat poop going through the yard today.

- accidentally scratched my car with my own keys.

- Somehow managed to hit the hangup button 3 times while talking to crystal on the phone the other night.

and thats all the things that stick out in the last 24 hours just for examples (along with a host of other things that Id really not like to go on about in public). I can make a larger list that goes on and on and on and on. point of the post is I dunno what I did but God is really been punishing me for a really long time. Anyone have any advice on how to get out of such a long and horrible slump? It seems like I work twice as hard to get half as much as everyone else and I cant get anything to go in my favor. I know this post sounds really whiny and to be honest it is. But Im really desperate. I got to figure out how to change my luck. Im really reaching the end of my rope. Any ideas at all?

Well as someone who, two and a half years ago had no job, was flunking out of school, had $20,000 debt, and had just ended a 4 year relationship with my girlfriend, I can relate to being in a slump. Mine ended though, and so will u'rs. You've just gotta ride it out bro, and trust in God. Keep the faith and good things will come.

God's not punishing you . . .

If you think you have it bad, take a little time and read Job . . :)

God is wanting to give you something . . . read Job . . . read only the beginning, then only what Job says when his friends come, (don't read what his friends say . . trust me, it is a misture of truth and error and will not help you with this), then read the end . .

Before you start, ask the Holy Spirit to help you and give you understanding of what you are about to read . ..

God takes us into the desert bj . . . .. He allows these things in our lives in order to bring us to the place He can give us something He can give no other way .. .

:)

But God is not punnishing you . . He was not punnishing Job either . ..

:)

Peace in Him!

 and

All the time!- I think most people go through this at some point in their lives. It's hard once you get this happening to see anything good or even neutral that happens in your life, your mind tends to focus on anything bad that happens and amplifies it.

A true story...
Betsie ten Boom, who died in Ravensbruck Concentration camp was an incredible woman who could see this happening to both herself and her sister while in the camp. She searched her illegally owned bible and discovered that God told us to give thanks in ALL circumstances- not just the pleasant ones. She sat her sister down and insisted they give thanks for everything there- the crowding, because that meant when they read their bible others could listen, for example. Corrie, the sister, drew the line when Betsie insisted she thank God for the lice and fleas that swarmed over their blankets, but in obedience to her sister, thanked God for the fleas, although she could see no purpose for this added torment.
It was only much later that they discovered that the reason that the sadistic guards of Ravensbruck didn't come into their huts was the very same fleas.

As TLF says, there are times when we cannot see the good in what happens and even if we can, still find it hard to give thanks. All we can do is remember that the eternal perspective is different from ours- now we see in a mirror dimly, but then we shall see face to face. All that we have suffered then shall be put into perspective. Our job now is to listen to what God is saying to us in our suffering and to trust in Him that he will give us what we need to transform our sufferings and difficulties into His victories.
