I know we are supossed to let anything go that keeps us from God but would that include another living thing like a pet. My cat is ill and all of his treatments and time he takes away from me and mental energy he takes up keeps me from reading the bible, going to church, and even praying.

Should I euthanize the cat since he keeps me from God? I have tried finding him a home the last 2 months and there is no one that wants a sick cat.

While I am sure there is more to your situation than your short post discloses, my opinion is that caring for the welfare of any of God's creatures is about as central to our calling as believers as anything else. For my part, I would not see caring for your pet as in any way detrimental to your relationship to God; quite the contrary, I would go so far as to say that such care and concern is the very essence of being a faithful servant.

I agree. It doesn't seem possible that taking care of a sick cat who's not in danger of imminent death can keep you totally apart from God, from any prayer to God, from listening to a tape of a sermon or anything else like that. Yes, we get that it might keep you from church or from some other religious activities, but I wouldn't say that God wants you to sacrifice the cat who has been your companion and responsibility.
