My friend does no go to church however church is just a gathering of believers, so so gather in schools. She is in college. She does pray and read the bible. Is she in the wrong?

Christianity has always been a religion of community over individuals. The Mystical Body of Christ is not a loose confederacy of individuals but a strong, tight knit community that individuals are a part of.

Going to church is a vital part of Christian worship, life, and theology.

Depending on your friend's location, she is probably using caution concerning affiliating with a specific denomination. In this day and age that is a wise decision. She needs to find a church where she can be heard as well as listen, and her beliefs can be respected instead of being manipulated, or even ridiculed.

Dayhiker is right. The Bible does not say that we need to attend a particular type of gathering. As long as we have a tight-knit community of Christian friends I believe that is what is important. My family has not gone to church as usual because we are fed in many other ways, and perhaps better ways than listening to a mediocre sermon once a week. We also have many Christian friends and are part of a homeschool group which consists of Christians. The only downside I've noticed of not attending a typical church is when trying to get a job for a Christian organization...they always want to know that you're going to church full-time. In reality you could be going to church full-time but be very far from God. I'd say if your friend has Christian friends who she meets with regularly to discuss God, and if she has at least a couple of people who can be sort of a Christian mentor to her then she is doing fine. And as Harry said, perhaps she is using caution and good judgement by choosing not to affiliate with a certain denomination so quickly.

A person learns by going to school. A Christian also learns by going to the church.
