I wanted to get some advice about relocating to a new town where I have accepted a job offer.

I was thinking of finding an apartment but think I may want to find a friend to share rent with for a two bedroom apartment. I think I would want to check with churches but one of my friends told me she had used Craigslist and just interviewed people to find out if they are Christians (even though CL doesn't allow you to mention in the ad that you want another Christian to split rent with) and if they are trustworthy. She ended up finding a good Christian friend to split rent with. I am not really sure how safe of an approach this is, but I am not sure how easy it would be to find someone at a church. Also I am maybe wanting to get a room for rent so I can move there ahead of getting the apartment. I saw some rooms for rent advertised on Craigslist but they are in the center of a large city where I am not sure how safe an area it is.

The other question is how to go about getting furniture. I could get a U-Haul truck and look for furniture sold used on Craigslist or FB marketplace but I don't know if I could plan getting the furniture as a one day event since I would suppose not everyone selling furniture would be available every day. I suppose I could also find a friend with a truck after I move there but I suppose finding a time when both they are available and the person selling furniture is available and I am available might be someone hard to coincide. In that case maybe I would want to have a furniture store deliver. Presently I live at a house with family and I don't think I could move any of the furniture there.

Your first idea was good, use the church, C.L. is asking for trouble, your friend was lucky.

I live alone in a 1-bed flat, and it's never crossed my mind to want to share with anybody, I enjoy being on my own too much..:)
Simple 1-bed places are much cheaper than 2-beds anyway, so work out what you can afford and then find one.

First of all, budget.
How much will this job pay you?
How much is housing, utilities, insurance, groceries, and gas? How much can you spend on them while you save for retirement?

If you can afford it, I don't recommend roommates. I prefer if the whole place is my own space, no problems but my own.

I recommend having a working dishwasher in the new place. That makes life in general easier, especially if you have roommates.

New furniture is expensive and can be ordered online. Old furniture doesn't always look very good, but it's much cheaper if you can haul it yourself. That's usually two-person work. When I obtained a couple pieces of furniture from a co-worker, I helped him move it out, and he helped me move it in.

If you go with older furniture, find out if the previous owner was a smoker if you're not a smoker or have particularly bad reactions to smoke. It can linger on the furniture.

I am not sure how safe an area it is.

You could call the police department and ask to talk to the community relations department and ask what parts of town have the highest crime.

You want to avoid rental agencies that try to find renters because the apartment complexes they serve cannot fill up on their own.

You could call various churches and talk with the church secretary to find out what they might suggest.

If you bought (and paid for) used furniture at different places, many would wait a week or two so that you could return and pick up all on one day.
