NOVEMBER 22, 2005
IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE NOMADS
In a remote region of Africa between the Sahara desert in the north
and the wetter tropical areas of the south live a people called the
Fulani. It is a society with more than 20 million people who are held
together by a dominant religion and language that AWR has been longing
to reach.
With the help of the North Cameroon Conference, a new radio studio
has been built in Maroua, Cameroon. Soon, AWR studio staff will begin
producing messages of hope to the Fulani people in Fulfude, their own
language.
"I first learned about Jesus when I heard The Voice of Hope on my
radio," says AWR listener Ahmadou (not his real name). "My family is
Fulani Muslim. When I decided to become a Christian, I was driven out of
our home. All of my properties, including my cows, were seized. I had
to leave the area for fear of being killed."
While it is often difficult to see hope amidst the oppression and
despair of our brothers and sisters around the world, we are constantly
reminded of the power of prayer. This project, which was once merely
a vision, has now developed into an outlet of opportunity for the
Fulani people.
Thank you for your prayers and your gifts to AWR - without them, AWR
could not continue to share the gospel in 64 different languages.
Please remember to keep the studio in Cameroon and its radio programs in
your daily prayers.
God bless,
Benjamin D. Schoun
President, Adventist World Radio
